The part above the beak (the cere) is the tell tale feature - in males, it's blue, whilst in females it's brown. However, this feature only manifests itself once the budgie is more than about 16 weeks old. With a very young budgie, the cere is still a whitish pink colour and doesn't differentiate before around 16 weeks. If it's a male, it'll be more likely to talk. I had one a few years back and its vocabulary included "Little Peter", "Happy Bird" and "Bad Boy". It also used to be able to say "Squawk" as a word ... |
