I lost a couple of pets (a cat and a dog) who I loved so much and loved their name so much, that I would DEFINITELY name a child after them. Unfortunately, I can not have children due to some health issues, so I guess I will never get the chance. It would be a battle to the end to get my husband to agree on the names though... And no, my name is NOT Fido... I think I said cat, not dog, anyway.

Thanks wish-ga! It is actually not a part of my heritage at all, just a name my mother loved. It is Arabic. I had a professor in college who was Arabic and he explained the meaning to me. It has a double meaning... "original" and "blessed one". It is actually a last name, not a first, and that is where the original part comes from... it is as in 'the original family'. Anyway, I love my name, but as you see, it does not always elicit great responses. Generally when people hear my name in real life they tell me how beautiful it is... but perhaps I am just a bit intimidating looking and they are afraid to tell me what they really think. Who knows!

Tabari, that is pretty. And when I read it I said it in my head and seems I would have promounced it correctly going by your unciation guide. Maybe it is my Australian accent that makes me imagine that certain combinations are ounced in a certain way.

Well I have done a search for the meaning of the name and cannot find it on any of the sites I have bookmarked for name meanings. Is it a name from your mum's cultural background or a name she just loved.

My best friend is called Olwyn and as a child wanted to be called Olivia. She grew into liking her name but still very rarely meets anyone with the same name or who knows someone of that name.

LOL! Stormy is a name I use in real life, but it is not my real name. My real name is Tabari. Good luck ouncing that one everyone. LOL! Basically Ta rhymes with 'duh', bar as in the place, and then a long 'e'... put that together and you have my real name. When I was a child I would have wished for the name Stormy though... would have saved me from having people mess up my name over and over and over and over again! LOL!

I have a odd feeling that her name is STORMY. I don't know why, it's just so obvious that it can't be true.

Believe me Stormy, I've considered the same thing! I don't have any children yet, but I love my cat's name - Mia - so much that sometimes I think I'd end up calling a girl that too! Might be a bit weird if Mia still happens to be around at that time though.

Oscar and Cory...

On a side note though, I was named after a cat my mother used to own. I don't mean a specific breed of cat, I mean the cat's actual given name. My mother loved the name so much that she named the cat it, and then when the cat died and she had me, she still loved it, so she named me it as well. It is sort of an unusual name. And no, my name is nothing like Fluffy, Kitty, or Tiddles... LOL!
