Fallout Moderator Communications Specialist Posts: 6416 Kudos: 4053 Votes: 742 Registered: 29-Jul-2000 | This is really getting to me lately, i just wanted to see if it was getting to anyone else. Every day there seems to be something i see on a product to describe it that is just in my mind unneccesary. Such examples: A pool at at a local store doesn't say pool on it, it's a "Famliy Swim Center". It's a pool!! I'm sure many of you have seen the commercials for a certain bed that is described as a "Sleep System". What's so sytematic about a piece of foam?!?! A shelf/cabinet is now "Storage Solution" etc etc on and on... Does this bug the crap out of anyone else? Why not call iw that it really is?!?! So much simpler. |

katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | I have seen that lately, but I don't know that I would call it "PC/Watered-down" (Never heard of anyone being offended by cabinet or mattress). It seems like the people selling these products are trying to make them sound exciting and innovative. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

What sounds more appealing to you: Buy now for a low low price a brand new mattress OR Buy now for a low low price the brand new swedish sleep system. I bought a new shelf for my kitchen OR I bought a new storage solution for my kitchen. lol @ Family Swim Center though, that does sound a bit over the top... Inky |

katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | Well used car salesmen are stereotyped as shady and untrustworthy, which doesn't give the public a good impression of the used cars themselves. When I think of used cars; I think of Danny Devito in Matilda. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

Fallout Moderator Communications Specialist Posts: 6416 Kudos: 4053 Votes: 742 Registered: 29-Jul-2000 | I agree it may be a marketing ploy to draw people's attention, but some of these things are just too much. As for what sounds more appealing, i'll take the advertisment that actually tells you what the product is, not some convoluted ad that's full of one liners and sound bites. Why make things more complicated than they have to be? Just tell it like it is. Yea, "certified pre-owned" always cracks me up. |

katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | Well, A cabinet would be a solution to my storage problems. A used car is previously owned. A pool would be swim center for the family. I guess its a preferance thing Personally, if a product is of good price and quality, then I usually don't mind what the ad says(as long as its accurate). I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

As for 'sleep system', well that to me conjures up a vision of a hospital bed ... can't muster any enthusiasm for that concept, Swedish or otherwise ... |

Yeah, the fancy schmancying up 'o things is as annoying as the 80s habit of naming stores Uneeda (you need a ...). "Uneeda video" etc. Glad we grew out of that and into the R-Us phenomenon thanks to "Toys R Us". That way I can be amused at the fishing shop called "Fishing-R-Us". Glad fishing is their thing 'cause grammar and tense need some work! Must peruse, prioritise & action employment agenda items. (ie gotta work) cya ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

Really!!?? I thought the 139,475 miles on it was just a fluke! And just explain "new and improved" |

Fallout Moderator Communications Specialist Posts: 6416 Kudos: 4053 Votes: 742 Registered: 29-Jul-2000 | danizwerfe!! It does kinda sound like they're just telling you they're positive it's been "pre enjoyed" Pre-enjoyed is acually kinda funny, sounds like they're making fun of the certified pre owned and used etc. I'd love to see that on a sign somewhere. A vintage, certified pre-enjoyed used transportation system for sale at Wheels R US!! I like "final expenses" that they spout on life insurance commercials too. |

I was going through the information robyn and i gathered at the New York State Fire Chief's Association Convention in Lake George, and i picked up a pamphlet for "Jaws Ladders". Under it there is text that states it's "the total climbing system". CLIMBING SYSTEM!!? haha (still, the ladder is pretty cool) |
