Finally the RSPCA are putting a ban on re-mounting. In my oppinion it's horrific. The horses fall to the ground after going at speeds over 30mph and are then forced to run another 300+ yards full pelt. Most of the time the horses are severly injured aswell. But if not they must be shocked or disoriantated. I knwo i couldn't get up and run after falling over a hedge at 30mph.

Ok for those who are not equestrians. What exactly is remounting. Your description is a little vague.

sorry. When a horse falls by either miss footing or not quite clearing the hedge some jockeys pull the horse to it's feet and jump back on to commence the race. As i said the horses are almost reaching speeds of 30mph and can be seriosuly injured when they fall.

you would have more problems with that over there as you do steeplechasing (racing with hedge jumps)

Over here, there is hardly any point, if your horse falls (and they usually fall hard) the jockey A) has some trouble getting back on such a tall animal, and B) is usually trampled anyhoo

The owners would probably go spare if a jocky tried to finish the race after a fall, those animals are useless dead or crippled, and if they are forced to race on an injured tendon or bone, thats where they end up.

I'm not a fan of horseracing, i've seen way too many come out before they have even started, not because they can't run, but because the trainers aren't savvy enough to fix the small problem before it turns into a big one.
Good horses broken all because nobody stops to think.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett
