I remember Castle Wolfenstein... I always felt sad when I had to shoot the dogs.

I used to play all three of those. Rampage is my favorite of those three, I liked to smack the electric sign and get electrocuted.

I hated rampage (C-C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER)... Until it came out for N64, both sequels of which were pretty fun.

Joust is probably my favorite out of the three, because, although the graphics were pretty good for an A800 game, Spy Hunter just didn't appeal to me, and the gameplay was meh, too.

Joust was one of the best.

I think it was only in arcades, but I was a huge Tempest player.

LOL Cup

Me and my brother used to stay up all night playing the Apple, trying to be as quiet as possible so we wouldn't get told to go to bed (failing to take into account the fact they beep n squawk like nobody's business)

After seeing the screen shoots of Doom 3, I must say I'm grateful gaming has advanced, but it sure as heck is nice to look back on it all: those old systems gave a lot of bang for the buck when it came to fun (and before we all became spoilt and jaded lol)

Just remembered another classic Apple game: think it was called Transylvania maybe? Was one of classic adventures with a pic above the text, and the North, South, East, West, Up, Down type direction options below I got lost in that game for days till I finished it:|

OH!!!!!!!!! And Castle Wolfenstein on the Apple!!! How could I forget that, and the sequel... where you get to blow up Hitler, and steal Nazi papers to sneak by em, them stopping you to see if you had the right ones for that section of the game, if not they'd shoot it out with you or run to hit the alarm lol

I see your temco super bowl and raise you dragon warrior 4 >.
Wow dex, that sure brings back a lot of memories. The Apple II, before my time, but I got my hands on one some time ago after my friend dug it up in his garage. We set up a "home base" sort of thing in his garage--with a tv, old NEC computer, and a couch. Yep...hours upon hours of Oregon Trail were played in that room.

Also, the best game for the Commodore 64 is, by far, How to Be A Complete Bastard. >)

*wades in like the old fart that he is*

Now, in my day....

The first games I played were the old "pong" type games, where you had the dicky system you plugged into your TV with like 8 games on it... tennis type themes and skeet shooting a large, white, square dot on the screen... Apart from that were some text based BASIC games my brother and his friend wrote per code from a programming book on some ancient machine dad used to bring home from work on weekends (can't even recall what it was though).

"Our" first 'puter was a D*ck Smith Wizard (for other Australian old farts, you may remember it, looks like it's a re-badged Creativision, with a whopping great 16K of RAM) Only had like 3 or 4 games for it: some tank battle game, some space shooter, and a Space Invaders Clone.... ooooo talking of that, we also have a sit-down, coffee-table style, two player space invaders machine laying about here somewhere from when my dad "liberated it" form his work in those days

After that came a string of Apple II/IIe/Clones: games like Aztec, Drone, King Tut's Revenge (or such), Conan, Ghostbusters, Swashbuckler and a ton of others traded back and forth through friends (and all played in glorious black and green/black and amber).

In amongst that was an Atari 800XL with no games beyond "Oil's Well" that are worth remembering...

Then came the C64... Rastan, Gauntlet II, Out Run, The Hobbit, Evil Dead and some golf game were amongst my faves on that...

That was pretty much it games-wise till I got into Wolfenstein 3D/Doom etc on the PC

*goes to get his walking frame....*

Dex
