Did anyone else just feel that earthquake? Magnitude 5.6, and I definitely felt it up here like 60 miles from the epicenter. I hope everyone's tanks are okay.

Definitely felt it... thought the cat was under my bed, then noticed everything in the room was shaking. Tanks are fine. Definitely an unsettling experience to be sitting in your bed reading and the house starts moving...

Did your cat act all weird before? The only reaction I noticed in my animals was the dog barking immediately after. The cats didn't react at all, even during the actual event. I'm not sure, however, how the snakes and fish were acting prior to the quake; had I not broken my foot a few days ago, I probably would have spent more time observing them instead of sitting on the sofa watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Now all the sites like CNN and whatnot are talking about the earthquake... Slow news day?

I've not heard anything on the news about an earthquake. I WAS wondering if any of our members were affected by the fires in Calif. though?

How did you break your foot? Sorry to hear that! Must be a real bummer to be tied down like that!

I don't know, the cat was downstairs at the time, I think she probably slept through it. Harvey (green-cheeked conure) didn't seem to do anything unusual though.

I've always wondered what fish would do before something like that was to happen.

also, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Love that show, just sad I missed it. they wouldn't turn it on at the bowling ally for us last night

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

A few minutes ago I thought I heard an aftershock (didn't feel anything), but I looked online and none of them were large enough to have been felt here. I don't know what that noise was, then.

How did you break your foot?

How I broke it is much less interesting than the actual injury: I was just walking down a hallway and hit the foot against a misplaced chair. After that my little toe jutted away from the foot at a grotesque-looking angle (I thought it was dislocated), so I got x-rays the next day. It turned out the bone (the one after the metatarsal) had snapped in half and was displaced at a 45-degree angle with a 4mm gap between the two pieces of bone, so I had to get a podiatrist to bend it back into place (ew).

Yep I was sleeping and surprisingly was dreaming about something bad happening. I was freaking out in my dream and woke up into a panic. I felt the bed shaking and wasn't even sure if it was real. My fish kind of freaked out and the shake was actually enough for some water to come out the tank. When I was watching them they seemed to be trying to keeping up with the moving water and some of my green tiger barbs lost there color freaking out. After it was over they were fine not to long after but the earthquake in general was shock because this is the first time in a while that this area has had one this strong and noticeable. I hope it doesn't mean some thing more is on the way.

Are you still in San Francisco? Apparently it was stronger there than where I was, and it felt pretty strong to me.
