This week I will hopefully be going into San Francisco with my brother and dad and I want to check out a couple LFS while I am there. I am told there is a really good small one (owner breeds the fish and requires a water sample before you can purchase any...) but I lost the address for it. So if you know that or any other good LFS in the city, please let me know. I'll also need to know how to get there too! (don't know if we're driving or taking BART at the moment, but a street address should do if you tell me intersecting streets...

Thanks in advance!

The LFS I work at is really good (We just got in a beautiful 12" royal knife)... But it's like 45 miles north of San Francisco.

Well, since I live in the East Bay area, then maybe I will come by your shop sometime. Just not this trip

Ocean Aquarium is in SF and is really great. They have tons of great fish. When I was there, they had real swordtails with 3 inch long swords, licorice gouramis, a bunch of killis, and a bunch of cichlids. I got some apistos and killis, and they all lived, even though the acclimation was hard. The store is in a little alleyway, and looks sorta scary, but it's really good.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

What species of corys did they have there?

Currently my LFS carries:

C. aeneus green
C. aeneus albino
C. aeneus orange laser
C. arcuatus
C. incolicana
C. leucomelas
C. melanistus
C. melanotaenia
C. pulcher
C. rabauti
C. schwartzi
C. trilineatus
B. splendens

I think that's it...

Getting a little competitive? I don't remember all that was there. I couldn't stay long, and it was a while ago.

Thank you! Sounds good! Wow, if they have nice killies some might follow me home. I'll just have to keep thinking about how I really don't have room for them. I'll let you all know how the trip went, probably tomorrow night

Well I must say it was really good! I'm amazed how much was crammed into that little shop. I didn't get any fish, but I got two compact flourescent bulbs (I had been looking for some for a while), and some plant fertilizer (I was out). The guy there gave me some good advice about plants too. Some of the fish highlights were double crowntail bettas, tons of livebearers (including at least a half dozen strains of guppy) a couple killies, the most healthy Apisto. cacatuides I have ever seen, and lots of other cichlids (including my favorites, the brichardis... perhaps sometime I'll trade some out so I'll have better breeding stock...) Practically all of the display tanks were nicely planted and looked really great. I definitely want to go back!

EDIT: Oh yes, and he quarantines his fish for a week before he'll sell them. And the display tanks are all on seperate filter systems

Another thing I noticed while there: Pelvicachromis taeniatus. I don't think I had ever seen them except in pictures before. Hopefully if and when we convert the 60 to freshwater, I can get a couple. They're gorgeous fish.
