Satellite Tv. On Your Comp. | |
fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Maybe this is old stuff to some of you, but it's new to me. I wouldn't let hubby get cable or satellite tv. cause we can't keep up with the bills as it is! We had an antenna on the roof & got 3 channels, but the ice storm knocked it down & broke it, so now we get two fuzzy channels. On Super Bowl Sun. he wanted to watch the game & was on the internet & saw an ad for satellite tv. to get over your internet onto your computer for a one time price of $40. We decided to go for it & in just a few minutes he had the channel on for the game. It hadn't started yet. You just pay the $40 & then download their software & you got it. Most are foreign channels & some don't even come in............. but there are still plenty of good channels to watch. I wanted to hear something in English, so I checked out Canadian channels, the UK & Australia. (actually, I've been playing with it for days) It's interesting. The main complaint I have about it, is I can't seem to find a tv. guide for it. So for anymore poor folk out there like us, you might want to check into it. Out of curiosity........... does anybody else have this on their computer? |

It's rather neat, though I won't be able to afford it for a long time on my part time wage! Lol. |

I love it!! |

On our comp. tv., hubby said there was a place to click on each channel to see it's schedule. I haven't checked into it yet. He also said we could play it on our tv.. You need a cable & a PC to tv. card. We have the cable, but haven't checked into the card yet. If the card isn't too much we'll probably get it. We haven't checked into the recording aspect of it yet. |

I've got the latter, and if i upgrade, i'm going to get two seperate cards. Seperate cards will perform better, as they each have a specific task rather than having a jack-of-all-trades card. |

Besides, out standard 5 are a bit um, ordinary for export I hope you are getting out pay ones! |

In fact, Dani and I just got a 32" LCD HDTV that HAS a vga port, and we are going to get a new computer and hook it up to that. Thats right.... 32" MONITOR!!! We already have a wireless keyboard and mouse... so we're going to surf the 'net from out living room couch!!! WOOOO |

fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Callatya- This is what is listed under Australia channels: ABC Sports News ACC Australian Christian BigPond Bloomberg TV. The New Inventors National Nine News The only one I've been able to get in so far is the last one & everyday it's a rerun! Some woman talking with Bernie Banton about Aspestos killing people. I don't stay tuned, so I don't know what they talk about after that. There is a sign behind them that says, "Today - Summer in the City." "I was always certain that America was the home of several billion specialised channels, I always assumed there was no need or desire for outside channels." I think I can say you are gravely mistaken there. People from all kinds of professions want to know what is going on in the rest of the world, as it can affect them, let alone government & politicians. I myself, from a small midwest town, always wondered why we couldn't get channels from our neighbors, Canada & Mexico. It just didn't seem right & I wanted to know more about those Countries since they were so close. I always thought it would be nice to get oversees channels too....... if they were good ones. Some of their news would be interesting, as well as seeing how they lived, what they ate, how they dressed, what they believed. So far, the foreign channels I've seen are in their own language though. I did find one from some country like Estonia? where Kennith Copeland was preaching from America & they translated it into their own language. And then another similar one where they were speaking English. Oh, sorry....... you're foreign, so you probably don't know who Kennith Copeland is. See! Other Countries are interesting! Just the conversations on this fish site about candy are different. Can you imagine if you broadened that conversation to include all other subjects!? Other Countries are interesting, as well as important. Just because we live in the USA doesn't mean we don't want to know what the rest of the world is like. And for important & influential people in certain professions, they HAVE to know what is going on in the rest of the world. So YES, there is a definite need & desire for outside channels. |

I didn't mean it like that I hadn't even got as far as thinking news and current affairs, I was still on entertainment. We get a lot of American TV over here, I'd guess at least 50% of prime time shows are US produced. They are great shows and I'm guessing that there are more of that type that don't make it over here that you guys get the benefit of watching. The impression that I get of US television is that there is everything you could ever want (with the exception of overseas daily news broadcasts), phenomenal numbers of channels all pumping out constant entertainment. We have gaps in our viewing choices, but considering the sheer quantity of available programming I just never imagined you guys wanting for anything in that area. I could understand some individual programs (like the New Inventors ) but entire channels would seem odd to me, mainly because we have only a handful that aren't cable and a majority of both cable and free-to-air are ba I didn't mean to imply that there was no interest in the outside world, I know that its not true. Programs I could understand, but channels just struck me as unusual. But you are right, it is fun I remember my favourite overseas channel experience. I was sitting in Germany, watching a bollywood film that was dubbed and subtitled in German was great! And commercials are good, I never understood the meow meow song thing until I saw it on an overseas channel. The programs are not necessarily the interesting parts Its a shame they aren't sending just the plain old ABC. If there was one export-worthy channel of ours, that'd be it. Major benefit being that other than the BBC content and the West Wing, that's primarily local programming. And um, while we are on the topic of sharing, the extreme night owls and the early risers know him at least http://www.kcm.org/media/tv/international_list.php#asia |

I would like to know some of the more down to Earth stuff about other Countries. WEll, your right there.......... we aren't lacking for pure entertainment! People get paid lots of money to think up new entertainment platforms for tv., as well as movies! Most of it has turned to pure garbage & mind corrupting tv. shows & movies though. It's so sad...... humans are capable of so much good & yet we concentrate on all the bad, just wanting to see more of it. I'll swear that most of our tv, has a requirement that it has to have sex & violence & perversion in it or it won't be allowed on tv.. I don't even like to watch tv. in the evenings anymore. Anyway......... away from the preaching........... Soooo what shows of ours do you like? I'm really curious what you get over there & which ones you like? Oh, I got your Christian channel to come in tonight. I'm disappointed in this satellite tv. though for PC's. Sometimes you can hardly get anything to come in at all. It seems to be more of just like a play toy. ...................... Racso-Sounds like you have the perfect setup! I want that one. |
