I'm just curious as to why you all get tatoo's? My daughter's, all three of them have small one's, but I still haven't figured out why. It's something I've never even considered for myself.

Oldtimer...my mom asked me the same thing. To me its just a different way to display an artists work. Just as you or anyone else would hang a picture on the wall, I choose to "hang" my pictures on my skin. Ive always been interested in tattoos, even when I was younger. I dont think tattoo's are for everyone, but it is the way I choose to display my "art". Funny thing is that the walls in my house are completely white and there isnt really much at all hanging on them. LOL...go figure eh?

Thanks for you input DRO. Do you design the tatoo's or do you allow the tatooist (is that a word, lol) to just do has he or she is inspired?

I guess I chose to do mine because I wanted to permanently express how I feel about some things. I guess that sometimes, in life, some things are so temporary, but tatoos go with ya to the grave. Might also be peer pressure a little....everyone else I know was doing it, I thought if it looked cool on them, it would look even cooler on me!

I have done it both ways Oldtimer. I have tattoo's that I have just went in and sat down and told the artist to do as they please. I have just recently changed artists, but until about a month ago I had been going to the same guy for the last 12 years, so he knew my "style". Most of the time however I have an idea of what I want and I relay my idea to my artist and let them draw up something based off of what I have told them. The majority of my tattoo's have a story behind them in some way, shape, or form. I have very few impulse tattoo's and most of them have been thought about for quite some time....especially the new ones on my wrists and tops of my hands. I dont care who you are, getting tattoo's on a part of the body that in no way can be covered up (unless I wear gloves) is a HUGE step.

I guess it's kind of like anything else, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Do you think you'll ever regret getting them? I know several individuals that as they got on in life wish they hadn't gotten them. Of course they may also have originally got the tatto's on a spur of the moment thing, or maybe a few too many

It's true. When I was a kid I desperately wanted a small Arabic caligraphy tattoo on my shoulder - Assalaamu Aleikum, peace be upon you. I had a design I really liked and everything, just wanted to be old enough to have it done. Luckily I never got it done, with all the Arab-hatred which has come into existance in this world.

All of mine (8 total) except one represent a milestone of some kind in my life.
My purple dragon actually took over a month working with the artist to get exactly what I was looking for. (no simple task considering I live over 100 miles from him).

Just bumpin this back up. I should have more pics after this Wednesday for everyone. I go in Wed. night to get the outline done on my reef scene to finish up my half sleeve on my lower left arm. Session #1 is the outline and then probably 3-4 more sessions after that for shading/color.

Im big time excited

Ok, so 4.5 hours of outline and only 50-60% of the outline is done. I will take some pics and post them soon. The outline will probably look like a bunch of garble (is that a word? ) until color is added. We decided to stop where we were at and let it heal then add color before going on to more outline. Soooooo basically my 4-5 sittings most likely turned into 12-14 sittings because the half sleeve has snowballed into a full sleeve

Awesome Nate! I can't wait to see them finished. I really envy you, the most I can take for a sitting has been 3 hours and then I turn into a crying baby.

It would have been longer. We were planning on going from 6pm-midnight and outlining my whole sleeve, but we wanted to stop and figure out what else we were going to piece into it.

Ive wanted this "reef scene" for so long, I think I could have put up with the outline and color all in one sitting.

Just bumpin back up

I had another 4 hour session last night. We were going to try to get everything colored in that was outlined last session, but it didnt work out that way. The detail and number of colors in the two pieces that we colored made it take up the whole session. I have to admit, I was pretty bummed that we didnt get everything colored in, but I am VERY happy with the way they turned out. I took these pics just now, so the colors are not as "fresh" looking and vivid as they will be when it is healed

The Anemone the "texture" he added in the detail is what makes this piece stand out

The Mantis.....Im super happy with the way this one turned out. The colors just pop right out and grab ya. Im thinking I made a good choice in switching artists

And finally a kinda sorta both together shot
