Hey guys,

I have terrible news. My daughter had an ear infection. We had childrens tylenol on our computer desk. Our 1.5 year old dachshund jumped into my wifes computer chair and took off with the tylenol. She chewed the top off of the tylenol and ate I am thinking about 5-6 80mg tablets. I went to bed early and my wife noticed Holly's eyes were squinting. I thought nothing of it. I have always heard of tylenol being bad for animals because of one its key ingredients. At 3am Holly did not sleep well so my wife took her to the emergency animal clinic. They thought she had an allergy to something. On the way home my wife asked me if Holly had gotten into anything. I was like honey do you think she ate any of the childrens tylenol? She was like OMG look into the bottle. Sure enough some of the pills were missing. She turned the car around and went back to the clinic.

The clinic called animal poison control. They said it is common. They quickly got an IV in her and started to feed her several medicines to clense her system. They could not do a stomach pump because the meds were metabolized. Holly eyes were swollen the size of a peach. She could not see. They ran blood tests and as of 12pm today her kidneys and liver was functioning normal and the swelling had gone down.

They say it may take weeks for the tylenol to damage any of Holly's organs. They are going to keep her in the puppy icu for several days. Last check @ 5pm central her eyes were not swollen bad and the vet on call said she is looking better but not to judge the appearance because of the effect of the meds can get worse.

I just wanted to let the people here that did not know the effects of tylenol on animals understand what it could do. Also to ask you guys to remember Holly in your prayers.

PS: the key ingredient in the medication is "Acetaminophen"
Apparently 20mg of it can cause death to cats within a 24 hour period. Dogs and Cats metabolize this ingredient differently than humans.

Here is a pic of Holly:

Holly is in my thoughts, as is her entire family.

Whew. Im back. I wasn't online this weeked. Wife and I bought new PC desks and we decided to paint. sooo...

Holly is fine. She came home Saturday. Luckily she must have only consumed 4-6 pills which saved her little life. The swelling has gone down and she is doing much better. She was soooo glad to be home. She cried and cried for 30 mins when she entered the house. It was sad. We have to monitor her closely and get some follow up blood work this week but she is fine! Thanks all for your thoughts. We were freaked out.

oh man, i wish i didnt see the picture. it made things worse

Im glad to hear she is doing fine, and I hope it stays that way.

I kinda know how you feel, as my dog took a packet of plant fertiziler sticks (IN FRONT OF MY MOM) and she tried to get them off of her,and she ran away, but my mom did nothing. We called the posion control, and they said it was ok, and we should try to get her to drink water.. sorry for the story, as i assume you didnt want to hear it.

But please post back, and tell us what happens, i hope everything will be fine
