Last year - we were walking in a Pet Store near my apt. I spotted a cute little 16 gl bow front tank that I really wanted. There was only 1 left. Somehow, I managed to get seperated from my boyfriend who was in a different part of the store walking around with a friend he ran into. When I finally caught up, I pulled him over to show him the tank I wanted, and Low and Behold, IT WAS GONE! I explained it to him, and he said "That's the tank that Louis just bought". WHAT?!?! (Not to mention that Louis got a discount because there was some sticky stuff on the side of the tank. . nothing big, and easily fixable but the store staff was too lazy and just discounted it instead)

Anyway - last week we were at a different LFS and we were talking to our friend who said "You guys want a fish tank? $50". Well my boyfriend looks in the car (1/2 expecting to see a broken down crappy tank) and sees a 16 gallon bow front tank.
Him - "uh hon? It's a 16 gallon bow"
Me - "Yeah right!"
Our friend - "I just got it from Louis - He set up a 55 gl and was getting rid of it!"

My expression must have been classic at that point! THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN... and a YEAR later in a town 45 minutes away?!?!

Needless to say - the tank is FINALLY in my possession! TOTALLY by accident but I have it!!

not even the same style tank but the EXACT SAME TANK!!! what are the odd's?

Pretty cool story, huh?

it's in excellent shape... and came with the light/hood/heater/filter - EVERYTHING. Doesn't even look used but, we hear he used it for SW. I am not sure yet.. we are kicking around a few idea's. I am kinda leaning towards a Barb tank with some live plants. Plain and simple. Making the Fish the main object. (dark gravel so the fish stand out, etc).

Still kicking around idea's. We would kinda like to do a SW tank but I don;t know the first thing about SW so starting small might help. We'll see.

"TOTALLY by accident but I have it!!"

I heard those situations aren't by "accident"........... but who knows..........anyway, I love those kind of stories! Congrats on the new tank!

That story now makes it a "special" tank.

Reminds me of how I got my 365gal tank years ago. (not to steal your thread, just another story).

My club was hosting the ACA convention here in Cincinnati (will be again in 2009). There was that tank in one of the raffles. I had put about $20 in tickets in it. Well someone else won it. So I was working, breaking down show tanks and set ups and such, when several of my fellow club members came running over to me. They told me that the guy who won it was selling it for $500! With all the extras, it was retail valued at over $4,000! So I went running to it. After talking to the guy, he started to change his mind and wanted $1,000 for it. Well I did not have that much money on me, so I was leaving, then he changed his mind back to the $500, and it was sold to me. Withing minutes, I had over a dozen people coming to me offering me upwards of $2,000 for it. lol. No I did not sell it, as it became my first shark tank.

Funny thing was, the guy lived in upstate NY. He had no way of taking it home, short of renting a truck. But he drove down to the convention, and had no one to drive either his car or a rental truck home. And actually, he had placed his raffle tickets in the wrong bucket. He was trying to win one of the other tanks that he could take home with him.

Sure is FP. . . I almost want to print out the story and have it framed above the tank.

Here is a picture of our new tank. We will probably buy the stand for this afternoon or tomorrow. Then LET THE CYCLING BEGIN!!!

Styling mainly. You get a better, wider viewing angle with bowfronts. Also i'd assume footprints, as you can have a smaller tank with greater volume without being (as) impractical as a high or xh tank.

Well.. as it looks now.. if Timmy gets his way, we are going straight Tiger Barb with a dark gravel so the fish are the focus.

(We agree on the Tiger Barbs.. but, whatever else I have mentioned, it seems to result back into "how many tigers") haha

Edit: Of course, some plants and decorations will be added, but we want to the fish to stand out more than anything in this one.

OK - we went to the petstore to buy the stand. . . $109.99.
I remembered that the other Pet Store had it for something like $80. so we went there to check. The price of the stand was $79.99 but under that one, it was listed as $89.99. I noticed that it didn't have shelves. I mentioned something to the girl who was helping us and she went to get her manager to see if he can figure something out.

He said "I can't seem to locate the shelves. How about I sell you the stand for lets say . . $50"

Let's recap - Tank/hood/light/filter/heater - $50.
Stand $50. (Fully assembled)
