I read them, but each book lately has been a bit worse, so I can't say I'm jumping up and down at the thought of a new one. "Sculpture turns back tide of Evil Communism throughout Evil Empire (tm)" ... no. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I think it's because I waited so long to find out about what was going to happen to Richard and Kahlan after "Faith of the Fallen" and pretty much the whole of "The Pillars of Creation" was about another story line.. Even though it was an interesting read, it kinda made me angry to have Goodkind push his two main characters so far off the plate when I wanted to know what was going on with them.. I'm sure I'll finally get back to the books though.. It's hard to give up on a series once you're so far into them.. |

Besides the statue doesn't lead to the revolution that will overthrow the imperial order. The imperial order is far from being defeated. Faith was by far one of the best in the series perhaps topped of by chainfire. After Pillars though everything gets much more interesting with the weapons being created like the ones from the wizards war. ya i agree pillars was pretty bad but naked empire is good and it helps tie in the whole pillars storyline. But i can now comment the since i am now halfway through, chainfire i must say is by far his best work EVER. Your little feeder line is that Kahlan has somehow been erased from everyone's memory and well no one knows who she is and Richard can't find her. and thats to say the least fo what is going on. In fact, they are the best stories I have ever read. I loved them all, and am also in the middle of the new book. Very hard to put it down! I should be done in the next day or two, lol. Oh, and Gomer, read the title of the thread....... Last edited by acidrain at 05-Jan-2005 21:08 There is always a bigger fish... |

Besides the statue doesn't lead to the revolution that will overthrow the imperial order. What exactly are you talking about?? Nobody "dissed" Faith of the Fallen.. Nobody "dissed" The Pillars of Creation either.. It may not have been what I was expecting (or wanting) to read when I bought the book, but it was a good story in it's own right.. Of all the books though, so far I'd have to say that the first, Wizards First Rule is the one that I'd consider the "best" of the series.. Still gotta read the newest ones however, so that may have to change once I get caught up.. Does Goodkind go into any extra detail about the Mord Sith in the newer books?? Their story lines are some of my favorites.. |

Because I did. Because it's absurd. Sorry, I like the guy, but that was way over the top and frankly impossible to get into because of the laughable setup. The main meat of the book was fine; he's a solid writer, that doesn't fail him. But the conclusion is - well, c'mon. Let me rephrase: Beautiful Sculpture Topples Local Wing of Eeeeevil Communist Empire. And by the way - does he think his allegories are really that brilliant and insightful or does he know they're obvious and a bit silly? I enjoy Goodkind's writing as much as anyone - I even liked Pillars, although I missed Richard too. But I think he should be held to a high standard, and I'll continue to "diss" him as long as he asks me to suspend my disbelief a little too often. No one gets better without criticism! (Not that I think he'll read this, but the general idea stands - I'm not going to say, well, the first four were top-notch, his writing can slide from now on). -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I thought a "diss" was something more severe.. But since I think I've used the word "diss" more times in this thread than I've actually used it in my entire life, I'll take your word for it, LM ![]() With this series of books, I think what was starting to irritate me the most was how heavy handed the "moral" of it all was.. I'm sure it's very dramatic and intense for most folks, but it just gets a little old when it's completely predictable and beat into you so ruthlessly.. There's no subtleness to it.. Goodkind's writing pattern is also pretty predictable in all his books of this series that I've read.. In the beginning of Faith, when everything was going so well and Kahlan had her little jar of fish that she loved so much, all I kept thinking was, "Well, that won't last for very much longer".. So much so that when Nicci finally showed up and drug Richard off to the Old World, it was really kind of anti-climactic.. The story itself was interesting and definately good enough to make it hard to put the book down once you got into it, but I seriously started realizing that I wasn't sure if I'd want to bother with any of the new books after reading Faith.. But, having said that, I still went out and bought Pillars when it hit the bookstands, so it's probably only a matter of time before I have to run out and buy both of the books I haven't read yet.. |

All are likely and predicatble results in his struggle to prove that kahlan exists but still it doesn't work. So predicatble action unpredicatble consquence. so whomever wants to read by far the best Sword of Truth novel get out there and catch up. its been out for two days and i have already finished that how wonderful it is. With non-fiction, you're learning fascinating new things wrapped up in a story that's actually true, which generally makes it better. With good solid fiction you get the same fascination with none of the associations- it's all new territory, yours to imagine the context for it. With fantasy and science fiction like these books, it's the chance to leap into a completely new world, often with a vastly different paradigm. The best fantasy books destroy everything you take for granted as "normal" and create a version of normal so real you're shocked to put the book down and go back to your strange life. 19, read about 200 new books a year - and reread a lot more than that! -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |
