Their is a saying in criminology called the Dark Figure of Crime which represents a body of crimes that are never reported or are never discovered by police. I think that in fish keeping their excists a dark figure of aquariums. All those people out their who have aquariums but have no idea what they are doing or why. Keeping large fish in small aquariums and small aquariums with too many small fish ect. Pacu's and arrowana's in 10 gallons with betta's, Snakeheads in 30 gallon longs...Piranha and cichlids living Happily together in a 100 gallon perhaps......what we dont know cant hurt us....but what we do know....and what is for certain in this hobby is that everywhere, somewhere lurks in the basements and bedrooms of the world, unproperly kept aquariums unchecked, unguided and unchallenged!........

My LFS has a HUGE pacu it is in a 90g tank, and cant turn around.

Its true. I know of perhaps 250 knowledgeable aquarists in my city...and suspect that there are probably three times that that I am unaware of....but probably 100,000 homes with aquariums in them. As well, there are probably 500 pacus, TSNs, and RTCs sold in this city yearly, but I cannot imagine that there are even 100 people with tanks large enough to house even a half-grown specimen of any of them....makes you wonder.

Now Clapton, you should think about what you have just stated up there, with the fish stock you told us you have in your 55 gal. You need to upgrade soon.

There is always a bigger fish...

An even worse thought is that some of those "unknowledgeable"(dont know if i had enouph knowledge to know how to spell it though) aquarists work in our pet stores. Or maybee some that know what they are doing but just dont care anymore. There is a person i know that works at one of the stores in my area that does not care one bit. He does not read the directions on medication bottles for when fish get sick, but rather just dumps some in. Also, you should see all of the excess food he puts in the aquariums.

And here I thought DarkRealmOverlord was the dark figure of aquariums!
