Naw not my heart, just too much stress, that has nothing to do with helping Judy.

Jamie called her yesterday. From the conversation we she told us this is something similare to wht happened to Gary.

He had pains in his left arm and his PB was over 200. Well being Gary, he left the Emergancy room and refused to listen to the doctors.

He had his stroke the very next day. I'm glad I let them lower mine.

My high PB was caused by stees. I'm gonna take the week offa work and sort some other things outs.

The trip to Vero was not part of my stress, it surrounds many many other things. I was actually and still am looking forward to it.

Reading my last post makes me realize how good drugs are at the hospital!lol

I JUST PM'd Jamie b/c I was really worried since you hadn't posted...

Spend the week at home relaxing in front of the tanks and being with Jamie and Cody. And be CAREFUL...we need our FP booger no matter how annoying he gets.

I spoke to Judy on the phone today. WOW! What a sweetheart. She said she has a strong face so she is dealing ok with all of this.

And thanks to you all I was able to paypal her 95 bucks.

She wants me to take all of Gary's stuff and sell it from my house. She said she has learned that I am a trustworthy person and trusts that I will do what I say.

God bless her.

I will now go down this Sat, I will be on meds that will allow me to do this. With a trailer and I will take all of his tanks.

The 90 I plan on keeping and will pay her for it. The 125 is up for sale, as are a bunch of smaller tanks.

Tryst I am willing to hold on to one of the 20 gals and some gups for you for when you can come down. just let me know.

I suspect Judy said she had a strong "faith" rather than a strong "face"... although both may be true.

Thanks for all your efforts, Shannen.

OK, I went down to Vero yesterday.

Holy crap 30 yrs of fish keeping=s a lot of stuff!!!

The man literally had a backup for every piece of equipment he had, plus..

He had said he was working on green cobra gups, but I'll be darned if I see one green cobra.

He had 3 strains, all very pretty, but I'm not sure what they are all called. I'll post pics of them soon.

The problem I see, is they all got mixed in one tank together so now I have about 80 mutt fry, and all the females are prego with who knows what.

I'm also concerned about shipping prego females. Well I guess it will be ok, as long as they are not about to pop.

I didn't want more tanks....but because of all the fry I've had to set up 2 more 10 gals..

I was going to keep his gups in my grow out tubs, but since they are not all (or even one) green cobras I wanted to be able to see them and snap pics. So I mixed them in with Jamie's male and female tanks.

No problem with over stocking..He only had about 16 adult gups.

We will see what the babies turn out to be.

Keeping them separated and not allowing them to mix, will in time allow pure breeding of them. But this will take some time.

Every one who is still interested in his gups please email me shannensmall@yahoo.com and let me know if you still want some.

I am a man of my word, if you donated and wanted green cobras, and that is what you want. I will give you your $ back if you wish..I think there was only 2 or 3 of you who actually asked for guppies with your donations.

I really think what the fish are is actually not very important. This is about getting Judy some money to help her out.

Her house is very nice, but looks funny half painted. Gary was working on it at the time of his passing.

I tried to install a new mailbox for her yesterday but, she needs to get a bigger piece of wood to mount it on. lol

It actually took me almost 5 hrs to break down his 125. Ever try to chase down little fry in a 6 foot tank. It's not easy I can tell you that.

To those who want gravel, also email me at shannensmall@yahoo.com I will have plenty of it after next weekend.

I didn't take any this weekend cause, Judy is going thru all of it. He had natural rock gravel, and there are some almost gem worthy stones in it. She is taking them out and going to be making necklaces for his children and grandchildren.

Sorry for asking ya'll to email me, all the PMs and lack of real names has gotten convoluted, and confusing. I don't wanna miss anyone.

So in your email, please give me your real name and your user name..

Thanks

Shannen

Edit: The man also loved otos. He had almost 20 of them. If you want an oto or 2 in your shipment let me know. Lord knows I don't need this many otos...I had a few already lol!

I was mistaken.

He ordered [link=these]http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1051" style="COLOR: #000080[/link] and has 3 full grown males. These are definitely one of the 3 color types he has.

Now we are having trouble seeing what females go with them. Female gups can take a wile to show their color.

Shannen, the guppy in the pic in that link you posted does not look anything like the guppies we have from Gary.

One of the types is a 1/2 black orange/red color
One of the types is a 1/2 black blue color and some are just blue tailed... and even one with a blue/black spotted tail....
The other type is almost like a mosaic with pink/purple colors all through it... pretty.

After a great amount of thought, I have made some decisions.

1. I can not have his tank. This is not because of finances so much as it is a lack of space. Jamie and I live in an apartment it is a big one but we already have at least one tank in every room of the house. 8 tanks total, and this includes a 75 gal that she has already committed us to get this weekend. This tank is coming from another member who needed to find a good home for his fish as he has to move and can not take them with him. You might remember his posts about it a couple of weeks ago.

2. In Judy’s best interest I will help her sell the tank. I will also just flat out give her money. You are all encouraged to donate to her and to help her with any finances she may need to take care of. Remember she just lost one of the 2 incomes that they had. I’m with Tammy on this one. This will allow her to auction the tank, and in the end make out better. We simply do not have room for a 6 foot tank.

3. I will take the guppies. I want to offer them to any member who donates at least 10 bucks. For every 10 dollars you donate you will get a trio of his fish. Shipping shouldn’t be too expensive. I will not charge a flat rate like most fish dealers do. It will be charged at what ever it costs to send them to you. If it is 5 bucks then it is 5 bucks. Again all of this will go directly to Judy every red cent. Any fish left over will go up for auction on aquabid, and again anything I get from them will go to Judy. It’s only fair. They where Gary’s fish after all.

I will inform Judy of this when she calls me tonight. Thank you all. You have been great!

It would be nice if collectively all (or most) of those who adopt the guppies work toward perfecting the true leopard strain. I have always (well, since I knew very much about guppies which is pretty close to always) wanted to try breeding a guppy strain (have succeeded in breeding fancy guppies, but they were just my pets), and it would be good if Gary's work isn't left uncompleted, for Gary and the rest of the aquarist community who want to see a proper leopard guppy

Shannen, if you do find out, please let us know if shipping to the UK would be a practical possibility..! I'd be very interested indeed, but only if the little fella's (and gals ) would make it across their trans-atlantic trip.

I live in SD, how much do you think that'd cost?

I've sent an email to my trans shipper about shipping to the UK.

She should at least be able to give me some info on how to go about shipping overseas.

Guppies are actually very hardy and should be able to stand being in a bag for some time.

I know Betta breeders and shippers who've (not intentionally) had bettas live in bags with very little water for more than 7 days.

I would think a guppie could withstand almost that much abuse.

I will do the proper research to be sure.

I still implore all to donate even if you do not wish to have any of his guppies!

As opposed to auctioning the tank -- what about everyone looking around for Florida hobbyists that might want to outright buy the tanks? Otherwise, having to deal with questions, etc. strangers coming over, perhaps that might be a little easier? (unless Shannen is going to take the tanks home and auction it himself). I'm aware of several hobbyists in the Florida area on other boards.

Just on OS shipping, Australians, i'm sorry, but its not an easy task. You have to find certified transhippers etc and quarrantine facilities etc etc etc. Its very expensive, and well, it may not be too good for the fish.

Shannen, buy the tank then and there with the donations, help her get rid of it, and then if you cant keep it, resell it or give it no another member who donated or who needs it (for CLs?)

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Calla,

I thought about that. I really do not even have the space to store something this big, but I'm sure I could make room. Of course I will have to talk to Judy to see how she feels about this.

That is a lot of trust to put into a person she doesn't know.

As far as shipping to Aus.
I will email Wassan and let him know of the situation...He does read FP sometimes. I'm sure he would help me in finding out who I need to talk to in Aus about such a thing.

Regards

Shannen

OK, I guess some people wanted a thread for this. Since this is about Gary and his tanks I thought I would do so.

Now A lot of you have posted and PMed me asking for ways that you can donate to this cause, and asked for another thread that would include ways you can donate. So here it is.

I have a paypal account. When you log and you choose to "send money" you have to enter an email account of the person or account you want to send it too. Mine is shannensmall@yahoo.com. Just put that in and I will receive the money. I will not pull from this account until all is said and done and I have to give Judy money.

Again, shannensmall@yahoo.com is the paypal account name.

For those who are over seas:

I know I can ship to you, but it will take some work on my part, and I am willing to do so.

I will have to find transshipers in your country before I can ship to you. This sort of shipping can be a bit expensive. I know that it costs around 60 US to in-port fish from Thailand. All I ask is that you remember you are importing Gary's fish.

I am not looking or trying to make any money from this. I miss Gary and have cried more than any of you can possibly ever know.

I am just looking to spread what he was trying to do and hopefully make his name live one.

Regards

Shannen

Edit: I edited this because of my decision. But saved what I felt to be important.

I have now upgraded my paypal account to a Bis account. This allows me to take donations from members who have a paypal account that is credit card based instead of bank account based.

Credit card payments are charged 1.9% to 2.9% + .30 cents from paypal.

My donation is in the mail. I hope we manage to get enough to help out with what needs to be helped out with (tanks, guppies, gas, etc.). I think Shannen is doing a truly self-less thing, and there need to be more in the world like him. Kudos to Shannen.

I didn't see eye to eye with Gary most of the time, although when I talk about 10 gallon tanks, it's purely Gary's words rolling out of my mouth. He deserves respect, for his wisdom - yes; but moreso for his tenacity in helping fish person after fish person seemingly to ignore the burnout so easily succumbed to by others (including myself!). Continuing to answer the same questions over and over and over, and over -- that is a testament to how much he cared, despite the gruff persona he displayed.

I hope Gary is over the rainbow bridge with his clown loaches, CAEs, and others who gave more to the world than they took from it.

No new donations....Give people give! I'm only up to about 150 bucks...

More is needed. I'm sure his passing has cost her a couple a grand.

BTW...I might sell my 40 planted to make room for at least the 90 gal...

Or you could PM me your addy and I'll get you the ammount.

6 will need a bigger box, so the cost will go up.
