The Hunter | |
Callatya Moderator The girl's got crabs! Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001 | My cat was scuffling at a bag of potato chips and I went over and moved some things out of the way thinking she was after a cockroach. I get back to the study and I hear *pitterpitterpitterpitter* and a very determined cat leaping after the prey. It was the pitterpitter that gave it away. Cockroaches sound like crumpled paper at best, this thing had losta legs! Prey = one very fluffy escapee crab. With fish, she couldn't care less, but critters she'll chase for hours! Kinda sad cause its the critters that I'm most attached to! Anyone else have a household hunter? |

We have two household hunters (cats), cause the mice came in this winter. The siamese waits for hrs. at night for her intended prey to come out. When it does, she usually nabs it. The calico isn't as patient. She has to actually see movement before she is spurred into the hunt mode. I get amused when they hunt their "invisible" prey. One will come tearing into the living room clawing at a certain place in the carpet in an attempt to capture this invisible prey. Then they chase it onto a chair or the couch still trying to grab it. At this point, they usually roll over on their back, glaring at us & meow, as if to say," Well, aren't you going to help me out here?" That's our cue to find & toss them a cat toy, which they quickly kill. Then they sometimes lay there waiting for another victim. Other times, after their quick kill, they are racing to the other room as if they should have been there yesterday! |

Lay around all day do nothing except demand lovin'. Now Jerry the Outside Cat I saved as a kitten from a pack of dogs, if it moves he's after it. The neighbors all love him and pay him for his skills. He kills any mice or rats Cuban lizards. I've even seen him jump on the back of very large bird and fly up into the air about 8 to 10 feet before letting go. I was trying to take a picture but i missed the shot. I know I could have sold it. She's caught one gecko although she's not really gone after them since the first one, also an avid hunter of humans, does quite well against paper balls or anything that crinkles. She'll drink from the top of my tank, and the office tank, but after the first few days with us she hasn't given the tank a second glance. From my two grays, Zelda wouldn't chase much anything except the mardi gras beads, Nadia would pounce on the pond but ignore the tank. She was also quite a paper ball chaser. ^_^ |
