Would be cool if there was a little valve at the back (key operated of course) that you could use to flush half the water in the tank out automatically to do a water change |

The aquarium has a 2.2-gallon capacity, which is a convenient size, easy to clean and maintain. Er, if it contains three shrimps, possibly ... but only then if you know what you are doing. And I'm willing to bet money that the kind of people who buy this will be, in the main, the kind of people who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a living animal because they're at the ultraviolet end of the Beavis And Butt-Head Stupidity Spectrum. I'd like to invite the company execs responsible for this to spend the next year of their lives in a 6ft x 3ft cage sited next to a sewage farm septic tank ... give them a feel for what it will be like to be a fish in this gizmo. |

Bleeder Fish Addict Posts: 739 Kudos: 50 Registered: 16-Apr-2001 | I was out window shopping the other day, and I spied something very similar to this in a bathroom sink store. Do click on the image itself to have a better view. http://homeclick.com/showpage.asp?itemid=123531 Needless to say, I wasn't surprised to see some dead barbs lying at the corner of the "tank". The volume of water versus the number of fishes they have placed into it, plainly amounts to a Suicide Tank. A typical scenario where the vanity of mankind's quest for 'unique and beautiful cosmetics' has surpassed the simple need for animal rearing decency. Poor fishes probably died a horrific death due to asphyxiation. Some more company execs for my 6ft x 3ft cage next to the sewage farm ... (where's the 'evil' smiley when you need one? ) |

Bleeder Fish Addict Posts: 739 Kudos: 50 Registered: 16-Apr-2001 | Very true guys. I don't believe that the "tank" even comes with a filter of any sort. Asphyxiation must be the main cause of death. We all know that fishes are stressed whenever anyone knock on the tank's glass, so imagine the trauma those fishes have to go through if they have to live with some bloke knocking their toothbrushes at the sink etc etc... Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | I checked the price of this piece of kit ... here. FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS FOR A 2.2 GALLON AQUARIUM???? For that money I'm sure most of the FPilians could buy themselves a PROPER aquarium with FAR larger capacity - that's the kind of money some people here have probably spent on a 125 gallon setup! For that money I could give my Panda Corys a 6ft version of the Panda Fun Palace with ease - AND still have enough left over to introduce four of those sky high desirable Otocinclus cocama Zebra Ottos as additional tankmates! Anyone who spends that kind of money on this contraption needs the bumps on their head feeling ... |

Bleeder Fish Addict Posts: 739 Kudos: 50 Registered: 16-Apr-2001 | Hahaha.. well said Cali! I have this funny image in my head : A guy has to sit "backwards" on his potty bowl 'coz he wants to admire his fishes. They take a crap, whilst he takes his. With that kind of money, it is more than enough to setup a beautiful planted tank with lovely fishes. Not to mention more space and water for them too. Such a pity... Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | Bonny, that price isn't for a whole toilet. It's for an add on kit to your cistern. I'm pretty sure that a complete standard toilet would cost a LOT less than this ripoff piece of merchandise! Yep, just been here. Standard toilet is around £125. That's a complete toilet with all the plumbing. So in US dollar terms that's about $220 for a complete new toilet for the bathroom. I'm sure that some places in the States sell them for even less if you're only interested in (pardon the pun) a bog standard unit. $450 for an add on kit to your standard toilet means that anyone in the States buying this has in effect paid $670 for a toilet. For that money I'd want one with a gold seat. For a similar sum of money ($466), this place offers a 100 gallon acrylic aquarium made from the high impact resistance stuff - the kind of acrylic that's used in bullet proof laminates. So what would you rather spend your money on - a 2.2 gallon bolt on toilet kit or a 100 gallon aquarium with the structural integrity of a bomb shelter? In my eyes, NO CONTEST! EDIT : found an even better buy at the same site - 125 gallon long, catalogue number aq-TV125LBK, for $441.89. So, what's it to be - a 2.2 gallon toilet sump or a 125 gallon? (dimensions 72 x 18 x 20 inches). Think of the Rift Lake setup you could have in that 125 ... for that matter, it would be an AWESOME setup for a Discus tank. And I'd have a LOT of fun turning it into a giant sized Panda Fun Palace with 40 Panda Corys, 40 Cardinals, 16 Otocinclus and 8 Apistogramma dwarf Cichiids - and in a 125 with those dimensions the Apistogrammas wouldn't be short on territory either! |

bonny Ultimate Fish Guru Engineer in waiting Posts: 3121 Kudos: 498 Votes: 7 Registered: 09-Mar-2003 | Ah, I thought that price included the toilet aswell. So yeah rather overpriced. If i get the money one day i'll probably get one, might attatch some acrylic piping to it that connects to two tanks in different rooms though so that the fish can swim between 3 tanks |

Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | If you want that kind of fun Bonny, it would probably cost less to have a hole made in a wall so that you could build a tank in place on one side, another tank at right angles on the other side of the wall, and then connect the two. In fact, you've given me a truly loopy idea should I ever be able to afford to build my own house - build into it an aquarium the zig zags its way along multiple load bearing walls so that you can see fish in three or four rooms all connected up to the same tank. Then have fun watching them swim in and out of different sections. I reckon that idea would be amazing to behold once it was put in place. |
