Tree frog tank | |

I have an empty 29g I'm planning to use but I'm not entirely certain how to set it up. I want around 10g of water area for the tadpoles to continue to mature so I was going to divide the tank off with a piece of acrylic, fill 1 side with water and a small internal filter, the other side with land, and add some branches to the top. First problem is the store locally will only give me custom cut acrylic pieces if I buy the whole sheet so does anyone know a place online to order a small acrylic sheet? About 12" wide by however many inches high I decide to make the water. If not how hard is acrylic to cut? If I take the leftover sheet can I cut my own tank tops and such out of it as needed? I have a strip with two 15w full spectrum tubes I was planning to use and then plant 1 of my dwarf water lillies, java fern, and anubias in the tank. Any other frog info such as good water and land substrate would be useful. |

[/link]http://www.petco.com/product/10813/Zoo-Med-Eco-Earth-Compressed-Coconut-Fiber-Expandable-Substrate.aspx[/link] It's coconut husk, which is great because it is cheap, natural, covers ALOT of ground, and is also great because when a frog or toad takes a big bite and eats some substrate( which mine does often ushually more dirt then food) It goes right thruogh them, where as gravel might kill them. I bought plants from the 99 cents store for my frog tank... which could have come out deadly for him, but i was lucky ^^. For tree frogs, this stuff is awsome [/link]http://www.petco.com/product/10412/Exo-Terra-Jungle-Vines.aspx[/link] This peice i can only find in Petco/Petsmart but, is cheap and a fun peice because you can always change it and bend it around, really cool. Water has never been a big proclem, it might be best jsut to use pure drinking water, it might be slighty mroe expensive, but you will only need a few gallons to last you a long time in a frog tank. Also, i always thought those hydrometers were bubcus! Buy a spray bottle, AND USE IT ONLY FOR YOUR FROG and spray corners and plants daily. Iv'e had most types of frogs before, there easy to keep so no worries! I can add a lot more info, but i don't know what else you need ^-^! So tell me what ya need shammy! Hope this helps! |

A few suggested peat moss and a few regular potting soil if your planting. The tadpoles are growing out in wellwater so while I debated switching to bottled I don't think it will be an issue. These are frogs from natural hardwater areas and native to our climate. I'm debating the heater as well because of that but increased water temp does increase humidity which may be necessary since I don't really want to mess with setting up a waterfall right now. I have some branches curing to cut the cost of buying all the decor but may purchase some with suction cups for convenience. |

The plants I have are growing with no fertilier or light, just like java moss. But i might just have lucky plants. Use either what i gave u the link to or potting soil, or what ever you may want If there in your native area i woodnt buy a heater, u'll probably be fine and with a heater there is a chance of baking your frog. Any questions? ^^! |
