i just came across this article talking about a company in korea that makes a device that lets you control your tank from your computer. it even comes with a camera so you can watch the tank over the internet!

That's not really an original idea. At least not if it's within the last year. I know there have been controllers that will fully automate reef tanks for a few years now and when hooked up to a computer with internet it will send data to a pda or whatever. If you have the right products you can adjust the temp, Ca, ALK, pH, lights, pumps, food, and even water changes.

Here is a link to the krib that shows a guy with the idea 15 years ago. It's pretty common now.

lol I dont think id trust my pc to run a fishtank, it would probably freeze and need a reboot. I have a feeling a dedicated stand alone monitoring system with no other system demands (like windows for example) hardwired and not connected to the net might be rather more reliable.

All you need is a hacker attack or a memory failure and then youd get some fried fish. It would worry me too much.

actually, the product from the korean company is a single device that is its own aquarium with camera. it looks way too small for pretty much any fish, but i'm sure there are lots of people who want one just for the novelty....
