Allow me to pass along some wisdom that I have learned in the few years I have been driving.

Never try to move a cement truck with your car. It won't work.

Now get ready for all the chores your parents are going to make you do! Go to the grocery store, stop at the bank, mail this out.. the list goes on, and on, and on. . .

But Congratulations!!

Along the lines of the other advice - even if you have a pickup truck, the concrete pillars in a parking garage are going to win.

The good news, I found out today, is that I did the *right* thing in how I manuevered the truck after hitting the pillar and didn't cause more damage than I'd already done.

I've never owned an automatic. My first car, a 1986 Ford Escort was a 5 speed, my next car a 1995 Mercury Tracer was a 5 speed, my 1996 Chevy Camaro Z28 is a 6 speed, and my Chevy Silverado is a 5 speed.

Automatics, pfffft.

My car is an automatic because I bought it off my Mom for WICKED cheap!!! I didn't have a choice in the matter. (My last car was an automatic because I lucked into that one too...)

Edit : So technically. . . my car is an automatic with a disclaimer.

This isn't one of those infamous "Big V8" American sports cars is it? As in 5 litres or more, possibly with a supercharger, minimum 350 BHP power output and neck snapping 0 to 60 acceleration?

Not surprised it isn't an automatic.

i have also never owned an automatic transmission, but tim and i are very much the exception to the rule. well over 80% of the vehicles on the road in america are automatic

Although I admit I drive an automatic, I had to learn and take my driving test with a manual transmission.

Yea, pretty much. 5.7 litres, no supercharger yet (probably going with a stroker, i like mountains of torque rather than top end, and with all the superchargers available for my car, they all come on power around 3k rpm. Now if someone could wedge in a twin screw whipple type supercharger that makes power even at idle, i'd be there!), no, stock was 285 (she's not stock anymore ) for my year, and 345 for a 2002 Z28 SS. Not exactly neck snapping, but still crisp in the mid 5 second range.

It wasn't a rocket ship from the factory, but it was a cheap, rear wheel drive V8 that was a very good bang for the buck car. New, top of the line Camaro Z28 SS 's were around 27,000 until 1998-1999 when the new engine went in, and even then you'd have to struggle to make it cost much more than 30k. GM left a lof of potential on tap from the factory, where just minor modifications could add up to 50 hp. It's not unusual for a car to gain 100hp from bolt on modifications alone. That is with the older 'outdated' engine. New style all aluminum engines had much more left on the table.

I love it

For some of us the thought of high gas (petrol) prices would dissapate as soon as that engine turned over.

( stupid speed addiction )

Actually my little speed machine has fallen into disrepair and having become a somewhat resposible adult with a fish habit and limited finances I am being forced to think of a more economical and envrionmentaly friendly alternative.

Congratulations terranova!

Welcome to serious freedom. When I got my license, few people saw me around home anymore.

Prior advice is well founded. Anything containing concrete or larger than your vehicle should be avoided.
