Look at the horns on this thing.

It was about one centimeter long and flew away right after I took the picture.

Bearing in mind that the site has only recently finished a migration, and is catching up with a backlog of enquiries, yo might like to try identifying your beetle on What's That Bug? ... although I'm an amateur entomologist, for one thing you're on a different continent, and for another, Coleoptera (beetles) are a job for the professional - because there's something like a million species of beetle in existence, and North America probably has something like 60,000 species in its fauna at least ...

It's Onthophagus taurus, a species that, from what I've gathered, was introduced to North America and Australia from southern Europe some time ago. We do have other Onthophagus native to North America apparently, so this species does not appear to have a negative impact on the environment like so many other introduced species do.

Hmm, was going to say I thought it looked familiar.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett
