What Would You Buy? | |
jase101 Big Fish Posts: 345 Kudos: 273 Votes: 1 Registered: 06-Jul-2004 | if you had a spare $500 for fish stuff, what would you spend it on? i'm talking in aussie dollars, so that's US$440, UK$225, EURO$300... i'll start the ball rolling: a school of 15 marbled hatchets - nearly $300 a pair of apistogramma elezabethae - $150 the spare change on food/ferts! |

I'd probably just finish setting up my tank. Lots o' plants, a moss wall in the back, maybe a second canister filter. You know, the good stuff. |

Or a new wetsuit that wont bruise my ribs when I dive oh, for the fishtank guess I shoulda read better. I've always preferred schooling fish to be in a big tank, so if it's a large one go with the hatchets. Joe, fish are insanely expensive here. (I think I'd still spend it on the dives though ) ^_^ |

Eyrie Fingerling Posts: 30 Kudos: 18 Votes: 16 Registered: 22-Dec-2007 | Only UKĀ£225? Damn. It would cost me that for a half decent sized tank that I don't have room for anyway. On the other hand, if my ex decides to take her fish rather than leaving them here I'll have a 240L needing stocked. Given that it's to be a sid tank, I'd spend the money on them and their dithers. Right now I'm just planting my tank, buying a few fish, and probably putting on new lights... Of course, I could actually go for CF or something with the extra money instead of just NO like I have right now. Then again, maybe I could just get a Rhinopias scorpionfish. They're awesome. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | $500 would be a bit of a start on a decent sized tank (1000-1500 gal would be nice... something big enough to dive in). It might be enough to buy an RO/DI unit and salt for the tank o.O |

Shinigami Ichthyophile Catfish/Oddball Fan Posts: 9962 Kudos: 2915 Registered: 22-Feb-2001 | poisonwaffle, you sure about that? $500 shouldn't even be enough for you to get a tank a tenth of the size you stated. That's how much I paid for my used 125 gallon set-up. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

poisonwaffle Mega Fish Posts: 1397 Kudos: 591 Registered: 11-Feb-2003 | Shini, I didn't say to buy the tank... just to get a start on the stuff for it (RO/DI and salt). I know it costs a LOT for a big reef tank... and it gets more expensive per gallon as the size goes up. Someone here in town has a 600 gal reef tank (big enough to dive in). He had to bring the tank in piece-by-piece and assemble it in the ba |

steven1982 Hobbyist Posts: 104 Kudos: 74 Votes: 38 Registered: 13-Jan-2008 | If you look in the classifieds you can find a 80 gal with stand, filter, heater, decoration, substrate and hood for $300. With $200 left to by fish and a new filter, because the fluval 405 the comes with the tank will leak, like mine.. With that said you can save a lot of money if you buy a tank used. It is only glass and rocks, they will not go bad if it some one had it be for you. |
