I'm writing a book that turned into a trilogy without my consent. I've written a couple plays and a dozen or so songs,(Just the lyrics.)

I have yet to be published but then I havn't submitted anything to an agent or publisher yet. I'm definitely going to get the book in print. (Think positive!)

It just occured to me. Do you write?

I do write but not fiction/stories. I create gem essences and write the information that goes with those and any associated materials. But not stories or the like.

I am a voracious reader and love words and word-play. (scrabble anyone?)

Gem essences are the cousins of; Flower essences, Alaskan essences etc. It is a form of vibrational healing. The energetic properties of the stones are used for assisting the body and soul to heal/grow.

PM me if you like. Never know you may get some info you could incorporate into your own writing, even if you treat what I do as *fiction* as it is somewhat unusual.

I think Scrabble might be the best board game ever. For sure the best that doesn't take hours to play. Castle Risk is another favorite and Chess.

Not Drake. As the Drake is a wingless dragon. And there are only two types; Fire and Cold.

I don't think there is an actual name for the different sexes of dragons. At least I have never heard of any.

I believe male dragons are called "sires".. I'm not sure about females though..

Could be. If I remember correctly, those animals with the males being called "Sires", the females are then called "Dames".

Sire and dam used mainly to indicate the father and mother of a particular animal, like on pedigrees. I used to raise rabbits and they are buck and doe but the pedigree always had sire and dam. Same with dogs.

I was hoping for something a bit tougher sounding. "The old sire had some fight left in him." doesn't conjure the same image as, The old bull or the old drake or trogdor for that matter.

You're right Fallout, I haven't a clue what homestar runner is. It's hell getting old. You overhear your kids talking and it seems that they've learned a foriegn language. The mantle of geezer can't be far off.

Normally I call them Sir, quite politely then ask if they would mind roasting a marshmallow for me .

I learned long ago not to trust them with helping with the clothes drying, especially smaller more delicate garments .

Okay, I need some help here. A male elephant is a bull, a male cat is a tom, deer-buck, sheep-ram, bear-boar, bird-, you get the idea. So what do you call a male dragon?

as with dragons it depends on the culture it has been recorder that every culture in the world has a meaning for the dragon mostly in the asiatic countries n cultures where the dragon is a symbol of good luck wealth n fortune but some SA cultures fear the dragon as it bringsdeath n disease in the folklore of dragons theres alot more then jsut fire n ice im sure theres a dragon to symbolize every emotion state of mind n state of matter
drake has been an acustomed name given to a male i believe the most most famous for the new world wood b the azdure drake which was a male dragon which gaurded a cave it was fire breathing blue n had wings

Your reply conjures a vivid image indeed. You riding a dragon in small, tattered and burned, delicate garments. That would probably make a good book cover if I get published.

Perhaps you could send me a photo of you in the appropriate attire so I could commission the artwork.

Dragons has nothing to do with DND. Now DND has to do with dragons, but not vs versa. Dragon lore has been around for centuries, DND just 20-30 years.

I actually feel that the word "sire" conjures a very tough image.. The use of "sire" also intones a sense of regalness, which I've always associated with dragons.. In the way you use it in your example sentence it leaves me feeling that you are describing a tough old dragon who happens to be a bit over his prime, but is still strong enough to get his point across..

The dragon in question is a loner and a bit of a rogue. A free thinker that flaunts convetion. Sire doesn't fit him. He is, however, a tough old bird and not one to be trifled with even at his advanced age. If he were a fish, he'd be a Jack Dempsy. Something tough, like bull, is what I'm looking for. Drake seems the best option so far.

Ah, I see what you mean.. Well, perhaps if you went with a descriptor that wasn't necessarily always associated with a male dragon, but implies the image that you want, you might be able to find a tag that suits your story better..

For examples:

"The old rogue had some fight left in him."

"The old lizard had some fight left in him."

"The old creature had some fight left in him."

"The old bull had some fight left in him."

"The old beast had some fight left in him."

"The old demon had some fight left in him."

"The old monster had some fight left in him."

"The old recluse had some fight left in him"

"The old master had some fight left in him."

Perhaps something along those lines would make it easier to set your particular dragon apart from what would normally be considered "normal" dragon heirarchy.. You disassociate him from the group by never actually using a common dragon descriptor such as "sire" or "drake"..

Since we're being serious.... *cough*

isn't drake, from drako which was latin, simply for dragon, in which case it's a rather cliche name no
