1. Unnatural fish (dyed fish, hybrids, highly developed "fancy" strains).

2. Brightly colored and glow in the dark plastic plants.

3. SpongeBob tanks/Cat in the Hat bowls

4. Kids sticking their dirty hands into tanks.

5. Parents who let their kids stick their dirty hands into tanks.

6. Newbies who ask for help but then don't even consider the advice given to them.

7. Inexperienced hobbyist with small/nano tanks.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Human beings who don't use the little grey cells, full stop. Most of the aforementioned woes are caused by this. And for that matter, 99% of the woes of the planet as a whole.

Goldfish bowls

"Aquababies"

People buying a pleco for their .5 gallon kritter keeper that already has two goldfish in it.

Goldfish as party favors

(and many other things that ticked me off during the time I worked at a pet store)

How much is stuff out there in NZ?? Say a 5 pound bag of rock??? Or fake plants? I know we both have these products, so maybe compare those.

*Stores that keep fish in deplorable conditions.
*Stores that don't post the REAL adult size of fish.
*Employees that tell you a common pleco will only get four inches long.
*Bettas kept/sold in cups.
*The fact that companies market those dang TINY little "tanks" for bettas that are no bigger than the cups they're sold in.

As for the boys who buy two bettas to obviously fight them, I like the sign at my fav LFS... "One betta per customer except for breeding or showing purposes." /:'

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

It peeves me that everything is so expensive in New Zealand! And that Americans complain about the price of things! All Americans should be made to spend some time shopping for fish gear in New Zealand - then maybe they'd appreciate how good they have it at home!

Oh, and then they could give all their NZ fish gear to me on their way out. I'll be the one parked at the airport with the big removal truck

Elistist cliques are pretty bad, or elistist breeders. Anyone who wishes pain and suffering on flowerhorns for example.Even those that wish death. Fine, they aren't a great example of the cichlid family, but its not their fault.

Stubborn people who will not listen to reason, even if you can back it up with studies. They irk me no end. Just because their fish aren't dead/dying, they convince themselves that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

The pack of boys who go into the pet shop and buy 2 bettas, and the shop that sells the fish to them.

There are a lot of things that get me about this hobby...

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

people who keeps gold fish and KOI in a 1.5G bowl.

people who base all their knowledge jsut on facts and what other people say, especially in regards to discus keeping. and even more when they advise people interested to not keep them based entirely on old data and principles. IMO don't suggest or talk abou discus unless u have personal experience.

People who think keeping goldfish is somehow cruel and unusual punishment. These are usually the same people who believe that whatever they do in relation to the fish-keeping world, is correct, just, and everyone else is wrong.

...wait... that pet peeve extends to everyone that way... nevermind

...you're doing the jellyfish wiggle right now, aren't you?

You can't take the fish out and play with them.

Mike

Okay, you can but it isn't recommended.
