okay, so my list of pets isn't that weird in comparison, but the pets themselves were a little odd... we used to have an alaskan malamute who thought she was a lap puppy... very sweet dog but honestly one of the dumbest animals on the planet... we put in wood floors and she would slide across the floor every single morning (for 2 years!). She also would let me vacumn her when she was shedding. I also have had a few odd pets at the preschool I work at... rescued an Eastern Box Turtle from my back yard (not supposed to keep them as pets here) that my dogs were going after... the kids loved Tiny the Turtle... she went to live by a nice stream after 2 years. Then there was Happy the female Hamster... the kids loved her, too... then she magically changed into a boy. Anyhow, I kind of end up with an odd assortment of pets that stay for a bit... they visit with the kids at preschool and then move on. We've had quite a few pets but nothing like what some people keep as pets... although hubby had a snake (before me)... some kind of big python that would escape and roam around his apartment and sleep with the furnace. Mostly we have dogs though... our current two are named "Rum" and "Coke"... we were a little bit younger when we named them.

-Sorry for the LONG ramble....

Earthworms?
Grasshoppers?
Chinese hampsters?
A golden retriever with curly fur?

...those are the 'wierdest' ones I can think of. The many other pets might be considered normal...

I'd probably have to go with my spiders. At one time, I had 14 tarantulas.

K9=A Mastiff and a Great Dane Mix. He was HUGE. I would have to guess he was pushing 300 lbs. He was almost 7' tall when standing up on his hind legs.

Other= Iguanas and various other reptiles. The coolest being an Egyptian Sand Skink.

Ummmm...

Never kept anything too terribly unusual. As a kid I had a newt and thought that was cool. We lived in a typical subdivision yet at one point my sister had 2 chicks, Fluff and Puff, who eventually became a chicken dinner We also had a big white goose that my parents had to get rid of because it kept chasing me around and biting me

I had a newt. I called him Mr. Gengritch (sp?). I also had a pet bowl of potato salad. I got rid of him though. After a year, he stank awfully bad...

I used to have 2 pet skunks... Sprout (boy) and Buttercup (girl). They were SO adorable. I have also bottle raised a baby fox for a friend before (she offered to let me keep it, but I just didn't have the time for one). We used to have a 'possum (Peter... NOT a good choice for a pet) and a special type of squirrel that looks more like a chipmunk (Skeeter... also too cute for his own good). I have chinchillas now, but they aren't that unusual. We also had two crows (Frank and Ernest) when I was a bit younger. I have had SO many pets in my life that it is hard to remember which ones were unusual and which ones were just fairly common. LOL! That, I think, is probably enough for now. A friend of mine has WAY more than I do... she has cougars, bears, servals, bobcats, raccoons, lemurs, skunks, fox, wolves, coyotes, lynx, caracals, and on and on and on... FAR too many to name!

Stormy I am sooo jealous!
I have always wanted a skunk!!

Fluff and Puff, who eventually became a chicken dinner

Ohhhh nooooooooo I would have bawled my eyes out!

My weirdest huh? Well I have had two iguanas, numourus hermit crabs, and a Tokay Gecko...can't say any of those are terribly uncommon though.

If we really wanna talk weird, all of my pets are weird per say, they're just not uncommon. I swear I have the most messed up dogs God created LOL

Brandi... My friend breeds 3 different colors of skunks. If you ever decide you are going to get one, just let me know. She has black/white, chocolate/white, and albino. Buttercup was one of her black and white babies, and Sprout was a black and white from a pet store that no longer exists. He originally came from the Ruby Fur Farm in Iowa (I think Iowa anyway). I, personally, have a fondness for the black and whites (like that wasn't obvious!). LOL! They really do make great pets. Sort of like a oversized ferret in a lot of ways. Be prepared though to put as much or more effort into their food preparation as you do your own. They can be a LOT of work! They eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. Loads of work and loads of fun! Oh, and one major piece of advice for if you get one... spay/neuter it AS SOON AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN! If you don't, they tend to become a bit on the mean side once they sexually mature. If you ever want any advice or anything about them, feel free to ask... I am more than willing to be of assistance.

A pet egg??
Stormy, thanks for all of the great advice...I will definitely come to you if I get one. I have always wanted something in the rodent-like family for a pet. (Aka-skunk, ferret, raccoon, etc...)

No problem Brandi! It is nice when your experiences and knowledge can be used to help someone else. A couple of my friends have had 'coons as well, and the one friend who breeds the skunks also breeds them. I found the skunks to be a little more sweet. I used to breed ferrets. They can be VERY fun to own. Only thing you really have to do with them is make sure they don't think biting is okay. They are like eternal kittens, so they are always up for some good roughhousing and play. Any which way, you are certain to have TONS of fun!

WHen I was a little girl we had a pet sheep because my dad thought it would be a good alternative to mowing the lawn.

It wasn't all that cuddly and used to head butt my mum when she needed to hang outthe washing. She hated it (and it is fairly obvious that the feeling was mutual) so it had to go.

I don't think the new owners had it all that long...picture a spit roast.
