Tommy, I wouldn't have missed it for the world! I really enjoyed meeting you and toirtis, it's just a shame we didn't manage it earlier. It would have been fun to have spent more time with you both and gone on an LFS tour. And I really wanted to see toirtis's critters... maybe next time!

Oh and next time I'll definitely come to Houston, Heidi. I was hoping to see both Houston and Austin on this trip but somehow didn't get around to it...

Thank you for taking the time to visit Whetu, to do that on your last day, was really nice.
Sorry it was so late, you must have been realy tired on your flight home.
Glad to here you arrived safely and the luggage arrived. It was a pleasure meeting you.
Tom.

Good news... the luggage has arrived! They located it in Melbourne (Australia). Seems it took the long way home.

Billy:
...*Grabs hat*...Oh wait...I DON'T HAVE ONE!!!

ummm... unfortunately I don't have your hat either now Billy. It was in my luggage that's gone walkabout... saves me having to decide how to dispose of it though.

mondog:
see you in 2-4 years at the next convention

You sure will! I've discovered I'm a convention junkie. Went to the three-day convention in Canada and ended up staying five days...

Toirtis:
Glad you arrived intact to live fish and sheeps

Sheeps?!

I'm glad you made it home safely! Glad to hear Goose was useful and that they didn't catch all the illegal music you were bringing in to their innocent little nation. Well, I'm off to help Jess move some MORE stuff...*Grabs hat*...Oh wait...I DON'T HAVE ONE!!!

Honey, I'm home!

Touched down in New Zealand two hours ago minus luggage.

I sure did get to meet toirtis and tommyc - those party animals! By the time I got home to Bro's little house on the prairie it was time to turn around and head back to the airport for a 5:30am check-in.

I flew Calgary to Dallas Fort Worth, then to LA then Auckland. Fortunately I managed to sleep rather well on the LA to Auckland leg. I can recommend carrying a toy duck with you on long distance flights. My duck (named Goose) was the best pillow ever, and so distracting to the customs and immigration staff that they all wanted to pat him instead of questioning me or searching my luggage.

So now all I have is the clothes I'm standing up in and a toy duck. It could be worse!

My fish tank is a little worse for wear... the live plants that were thriving when I left are now looking rather spindly and some of the fish aren't their usual colourful, exhuberent selves. But nothing a bit of TLC won't fix.

So it's goodbye autumn, hello spring! Goodbye carefree life on the road, hello job-hunt! Goodbye y'all, g'day g'day!

Edit: Thanks babel, the sheep are fine. BAAAAAA!

Well folks, I've been on the road since June 21, visiting FP buddies in the USA and taking a couple of detours into Canada. But on Sunday 5 September I board my plane in Calgary and head home to New Zealand.

On my journey I've had the great pleasure of meeting moondog, babelfish, TheresaM, JW, Fallout (Tim) and iltat (Billy). I hope I didn't miss anyone. In many cases I also got to meet friends and family of my hosts... an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. With a little luck I might still get to meet toirtis and TommyC in the next few days.

All the FP people I've come across have been delightful company, and some have taken me into their homes and shown me hospitality beyond anything I had hoped for. Some of my friends thought I was nuts for staying with people I'd only met on the Net, but everyone proved to be just as sweet and kind in real life as they seemed in the forums and in chat.

Thank you all for your kindness during my journey, and thank you to all the other lovely people who offered me hospitality, but who I was unable to meet for various reasons. I've had a wonderful journey that I'll treasure for a lifetime.

Yes, Indeed it did happen, Thank you for making the time to come and see me , Whetu, It was a real pleasure to sit and chat with you and Toirtis.
I think we solved all the fishkeeping problems of the world, or a least we would like to think so.
It seemed like you had just arrived and before we knew it was 3:00 a.m.
Have safe trip home, Whetu, It is wonderful to now have a face to put to the name of Whetu.
Tom.

And so it happened....with a 'meeting for coffee' that somehow went from 6pm until 3 am.

Well, met, Whetu....I only wish we had more time.
