My laptop has a wi-fi internet connection and is usually located near a microwave, and whenever someone cooks something in the micro, the internet stops working. It doesn't actually disconnect, but it won't load pages or anything.

This does not really pose a problem for me, I was just wondering how the microwave affects the connection. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

My microwave used to do the same thing with my 2.4GHz phone. It'd get a LOT of static anytime a microwave was running. Now we got 5.8GHz phones, so it's not a problem

I'm guessing that microwaves hit the 2.4GHz range, and they interfere w/2.4GHz stuffs

the idea of most computer and communications things is that they reserve a certain range of frequencies for themselves. but without proper shielding, you will still get interference. my friend used to be able to pick up his neighbor's cordless phones on his AM radio on certain nights. and if you have an old school hard drive, you can hear the drive heads accessing the data over a cordless phone as well. of course, there is no proper shielding for a wifi antenna, as that would cut off the signal. so unless you can wire it up, i would say just get used to having no internet near the microwave...
