I wasn't able to manage my old setup as easily. And although my type of filter may not suit everyone it has made my tank housekeeping a million times less stressful (and tear free!)... I used to panic thinking I couldn't get it backup and running in time and would lose my fishie friends.... ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

I just filled my 50G tank, and was thinking about what it would be like to haul 10 5g buckets and lift them to fill....and the mess. Not pretty. LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | Ok, Now I will be a little more serious. I probably would say a Python as well, but that has been mentioned enough. My next "gold worth" item is actually a camera. Most of us like to share their tanks and fish with others, but only a limited number of people we have around us do have an interest in fish. Photos of the setups can be posted on the web, e-mailed, printed, and what not. This way we get a much larger exposure of our hobby and the pride we carry with it. Photos help greatly with the identification of problems, allow others to help with the general setup and more specific design issues, and looking at them gives us 1000 times more ideas on what we can do about our own tanks than if we would have to "take someone's word" instead. And that's it, Ingo |

As for gravel vacs, well ... I made my own. Pop bottle top, length of siphon tubing, hey presto, DIY Python for 50p. |

Getting the water outta the tank isnt the prob for me.... it is the tipping bucketfuls and then getting the water from the tap to the tank... that is the magic bit of having a python.... ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

I used adams one on a string while I was there (go figure he can get any aquarium gadget he wants and he's got the string style ones )....well...the string...it kinda...broke. Anyway.... I think the other half of the non floating algae magnet is still down under his substrate (and probably will be till December! ()) because my arms are way too short to reach the bottom of his bigger tank I think my floating algae magnet travels with me from now on. ^_^ |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | Automatic timers. with 5 tanks and a total of 7 light strips to turn on, then 5 sets of moon light kits. That saves alot of time. 2nd, has to be the home made syphon for gravel cleanin. or the water pump (and 20ft of hose) for just topping off tanks. saves that time of moving buckets Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | lets see, I have a few favs that would make fish life unbarable... My camera, only had it sence last christmas, and have already taken over 1500 pictures Next is the bucket that I "stole" from my friend's dad..its a 3 gallon that conviently is small enough for me to carry, which has givin me the long needed muscle and came just in time, that next week, a horse would crush one of my buckets, and my dad would leave plaster in the other but it makes fish life very managable for me.. PARTIALLY UNDERSTANDING PARENTS! < always works when you begin looking around your room and wondering where you can fit more tanks in without having the floor fall through -------------------------------------------------- NOW I will for sure need to get a python in the NEAR future, I have 2 20 gallons, 4 10 gallons, 30 betta tanks, 1 29 gallon, 1 55 gallon AND I'm now getting another 55 gallon, AND a 75 gallon..somewheres around..next week but i agree, my MTS will break somehting if i dont get a python lol oh, and did I mention all these tanks are in my bedroom....teehee |

Bleeder Fish Addict Posts: 739 Kudos: 50 Registered: 16-Apr-2001 | Lol... ah yes, I do agree about the magnetic algae scrapers. They do save me lots of work and they do the job well. I would use a used toothbrush to clean those hard to reach corners though. To me, what's really invaluable are my plants. I wonder what the parameters would be like if they weren't in my tank....
