I know I wouldn't even think about this, let alone trying to figure out how it works. http://www.cosmicbuddha.com/adam/archives/002230.html Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

There is a rim in the top part of the glass that forms the hole that is lower than the rim of the bowl. Only enough water can get into the bowl to fill it to that rim, so it doesn't spill over. If that didn't make sense, go take a look at one of those pet waterer things that's got a big bottle upside down over a dish... ><> |

Ironhand74 Hobbyist Posts: 95 Kudos: 69 Votes: 295 Registered: 11-Aug-2007 | that is wayyy cool !!! the principle of physics reminds me of a ol bar table magic trick, when 2 tumblers are submerged in water end to end after all air has escaped, held together upright while removed from water and carefully placed on a fairly stable bar table, you can tap the side of the upper glass with a quarter just slightly moving the tumbler to the side enough to ever so gently place a dime on the rim of the lower glass, continuing to gently tap the upper glass, the dime will fall INTO the lower glass, after *much practice and patience, the only amount of water spilled will be that in mass that the dime displaces. Please do not try to impress the ladies on your first attempt at this fellas. |
