Well, I've finally decided to apply to a pet store, or rather, a Local Fish Store, as all they carry are fish. Mainly saltwater and custom built aquariums, but a small selection of freshwater as well See the store here

Very very cool store, I buy all my aquariums and such from them. I stop by tomorrow to drop off my resume, having already called and verified that they are hiring. The position is for Service Tech's, kinda like Deuce Bigelow, I would go all over the city maintaining people's aquariums

If you're not in the advanced class of hobbyists, you won't last long.

And, to make matters worse, everytime a fish dies in any given tank, you'll be blamed. Should a tank turn bad and all the trops die, you'll be hung from the nearest maple tree.

Gary it may not be the nearest Maple tree, it may be some other tree, and each boss is different

It takes alot of gutts to want to do the tank care, but a lot of people don't care to care for their own tanks

I'm happy to see young adults want to try and earn their own money instead of insisting the parents pay their way everywhere

Work is to hard for me, I might break a nail, or heck when will I get to see my boyfriend...Mom and Dad will give me money anyways...

No, it's got to be a Maple. Canada, you know, nothing else would be appropriate.

Go for it guppylove. What's the worst that could happen? They won't really string you up. (Between you and me, Gary is a bit of an alarmist. It's a common trait among irascible curmudgeons.)

LOL I guess I knew it was my calling when I started going over to friends' houses and bringing my siphon I seriously enjoy tank maintenance, so hopefully it'll work out. What's good about the position is that this particular company requires you to make very detailed logs as outlined here so that if something does go wrong, you have a ton of info backing you up

EDIT: Oh and Heidi, I couldn't agree more with you! I actually started working when I was 15, moved out on my own when i was 17 ( I'm 19 now), and personally try to avoid asking my parent's for stuff. I have an older brother and sister who are more than happy to mooch in my place
