I can see myself owning a Beardie or a Ball Python in the relatively near future, but the reptile I adore and covet is the tortoise. Any species, although the gold ones and the Greeks are particularly nice. Siiiiiigh. Someday! (Of course, the longer I put it off, the longer it will outlive me by , and, hey, I've already got illegal mice in the dorm, why not an illegal tortoise? ::Tries to imagine bringing in 40-long tank, lights, endless lettuce under cover of darkness:: Then again, I can wait).

EDIT: Er, that word was "covet" not "cover," which makes me sound creepy and potentially a danger to tortoises.

Softshells are awesome--I kept a yungin in my discus tank for a while.

As for animals which can't be kept in the standarad terrarium, my vote would have to go with either the gharial or the chinese gator.

I hear that Tuataras reach sexual maturity at 20 years and live to be over 100. They are awesome animals.

I've always had a fondness for the crocodilians, personally (especially alligators).

Tuataras are the best reptile in the whole wide world! I especially like that they have 3 eyes

I like retics. Just about the prettiest snake in the world in my opinion, although emerald tree boas and green tree pythons are challengers for that spot too.

Golden Tegu, a member of the Monitor lizard family, but not as slinky. Had one back in my college days. He was 3 feet long and very tame unlike the green iguana I got from my aunt. He was down right viscious!
