you know when,,, you have 3 heater, 2 filters, 2 bubbler, 5 airpumps, 15 air stones, 2 powerheads, a roll of tubing all that just in case. With 3 spare media of "each" for each filter, at least 25 different type of food, 12 nets, 4 thermometers, 3 vaccum, all test kits, a panoply of buckets of different size, a portable fish tank maintenance kit and a Q-tine... for a grand total of 11 fish :%)

Well, now Roxy...I'm not too sure about that dating part! But I might consider 'marriage'!

I now believe that Hubby is more obsessed with fish than I am...

We both arrived home today at the same time. I had been shopping and had actually collapsed in the Wal-Mart parking lot...couldn't breathe...God bless two teenage girls who helped me with my packages, helped me to my car, and made sure I was alright and stayed with me until they were sure I could breathe a bit better.

As Hubby is getting out of his truck, I gently beep my horn so that he would (hopefully) come help me...not too much to ask, after all, I am still wheezing and gasping and probably looking a bit Smurfy!

He shouts..."Wait a minute, I have to check the fish! The electricity has been out for 20 minutes."

]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|

Thoughts, going through my mind..."Well, if that's the way he's gonna be about it! I'll just show him! I'll stagger into the house, in my blue mode, dragging my shopping bags behind me, gasping my little lungs out! He likes those darn fish better than he does me! They've been without oxygen for 20 minutes and I've been without oxygen for the past 12 years! Just who does he think he is...boy, am I gonna tell him off...that is as soon as I can talk! If I could afford it, I would give him a piece of my mind! I'll make him think 'gotta check the fish'! I'm gonna feed those damned fish to the cats or each other or fry 'em for supper! Now I know just how important I am around here!"

]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|

"Shearon, honey, are you okay? Boy I sure was worried about the fish. I saw the guys from the electric company working on the lines and they said that the power had been off for 20 minutes...and I saw that you weren't here and I was gonna make sure you didn't lose any more of your fish...Honey, why are you looking at me like that? Are you alright? Shearon, put down that skillet, honey, you are in no condition to be cooking...are you okay?"

"I'm fine...just fine!" ]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|

When some newly met person asks you, "what kind of fish do you have?" and you start laughing histarically.

When another hobbyist, or experienced fish keeper asks you, "What kind of fish do you breed?" and you start laughing histarically.

... when you not only know every species at petco, but the proper name for every variety
... when all your fish have names, all of them, would you like me to list them?
... when after you've decided what fish you want at ur lfs's tanks, you stand in front of it at growl at others until the customer sevice to aquatics comes
... when everyone at my lfs knows fish demon and i as "the fish sisters"

When you realize that since you found and joined FP (about a week ago) you haven't checked your e-mail once and you look up at that strange person in the door for a moment before realizing that it's your girlfriend.

Also I resenly spent two days driving around at every lfs I could find in the phonebook (within 2 hours drive) looking for thoose two plants that just had to be in my new setup (didn't find them).

By the way, anyone know why the skin is starting to grow out between the fingers?

So here I am once more...

He is laughing histarically because there is a point of addiction (you will be here someday never fear). When the amount of fish you currently have or have bred becomes such an impossibly long list that it is literally laughable to even list them off; let alone contemplating giving someone the run-down.

I politely say I had bred this sp or that sp rather than have to list every darn fish in the entire sp I have bred. for example I have bred livebearer sp. That includes over a dozen different fish sp alone I have personally bred.

For rainman it is worse. He is even more addicted than I and probably does BAP points. (Which I have only contemplated doing)

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

Exactly right Koi. Bable, with over 2000 fish (about 6-800 fry), and over 200 species, it would be hard for me to list them all.

And yes, I do BAP points. For those of you that do not know BAP, it is points you accumulate for breeding fish. When you get a specified number, and the right order you get an award, plaque, ribbon, or trophy. I am also the chairperson in my local club for the Sustained Specied BAP.

when you wanted to adopt Nemo and Marlin

when your conscience bothers you for having eaten fish (any fish...)

when you're supposed to be studying for an exam but instead you're at FP replying to this post (shhhh... don't anyone tell on me! )

eilu, don't worry I won't tell....my secret for getting over eating tuna (since I don't eat land animals, I sometimes need the protein) is that since I don't have a big enough tank to keep a tuna fish it's okay....

ACIDRAIN, now I'm laughing....wow...so do you name them all? ....J/K of course....

When you have a dream about someone on FP working in a LFS and doing a documentary about feeding fish. Or when you realise youd much rather do a water change than have dinner which is sitting on the table ready for you to eat. Both happened to me today.

When you dream that the school of neon tetras was really just hiding for the past 2 months and the suddenly pop up as if to say "ha-haa, had you fooled there of fish goddess who brings us food, but really should bring us tastier nibblets. You thought we had been a sacrifice to pictus didn't you?...Well that will teach you a lesson, get rid of him, get us yummier foods and we won't hide again."

Then your dream continues to the effect of...well once the 10 is cleared up the neons will look so much more impressive in that than the danios, maybe I should brin my 6gal hex from home for them temp...nah can't cycle....hmmmm what am I going to do about the pictus....

Plot, plan, and scheme
when awake
and in my dreams.

And skin...if your hubby was really worried he'd get you more tanks...tell him he doesn't love you enough and should build an addition onto your house..just for the fish

Shearon honey, (yes, I'm still alive, but busy working my rear off) I hate to say this but you created the monster, and now well honey you have to deal with it. Johnny doesn't seem too interested in the fish, except he did want some new ones...now there are tetras in the platy, guppy tank...

OK here are a few more for you....

You might be obsessed with the fish if:

Your new job keeps you from seeing them as much as you want or need to...

You get some tetras to satisfy the boyfriend and wonder why the heck they won't school like they are supposed to but keep trying to make babies with the platies and guppies...

You wonder what a guppy/tetra would look like...

You spend the fish hours of your one day off caring for the tanks, and trying to get caught up on the time you've missed watching them...

You get a new video camera and the first thing you do is see how well the fish turn out on video...

Dang I need a life......

"You go away and miss them more than the people you live with" -- I always used to love getting away from my x-roommates!!!

When you try pawning off your newest tank as your boyfriend's birthday present. (But he loves it!!)

When your significant other (that you live with) sees you less than your fish and fish profiles buddies do.

When you forget about the dishes in the sink until you have to hook up your python.

When you spend amost your whole paycheck in one trip to the LFS. (I needed it ALL!!)

It's OK, Shearon!! It wasn't callin me a guy in te other forum that kept me from posting... I hardly got to see my fish this past week!! But I made up for it... I spent all last night at the LFS picking plants and decorations for my 30gal. It's almost done now... used Cycle and biospira and have 4 comets in there to feed the bacteria.

Ummm... yeah, I've spent all my money on these guys in the past few months!

I think we all dream about them too much..... ......

When you stay up all night with them because of a little weather disturbance.....

When you're sick with worry all weekend because you don't know if your "weekday" fish are still alive because of a little weather disturbance....

When you can go shopping @3 different stores, none of them fish stores, just to find stuff for your tanks....

Hm... Fish in hamsterballs? Sounds neat, except they would kind of get dizzy, now wouldn't they? I would like a laundry dryer fish tank. You know, those dryers with the porthole looking doors. Now, that would be neat, except you wouldn't want to put your fish on "tumble" dry or anything like that.

Here's a new one... When you get tired of going to the same LFS('s) all the time so you start driving around until you see something that might resemble an LFS.

True story!! Fount this neat Exotic pet store yesterday, which mostly sells reptiles, and low and behold, this guy gets his feeders off the same people as the bigh LFS's, and he can order any kind of fish for 1/5 the price!!! (the best part is this guy is closer than the other LFS's!!)
Hmmmm... what fish do I want to order today???

hahaha! 9 pages of pure humour!!
here goes...

When the first thing you do is go to your tanks in the mornings to check on them, even though your busting to go to the toilet and dying of thirst...

When your in a new area and eyeing off the bunch of shops looking for what might be an aquarium...

When your counting down the amount of days left before you can attempt the EVIL quiz again...]:|
Because this time you are POSITIVE you'll get 10/10 for sure!!!

When you spend your free lines at school (ie No Class/Study Time) at the LFS.

When you jump onto this site when you get home.

When you can sit on the couch in from of your tanks and watch your fish for hours straight.

When your parents think you are mentally unbalanced because all you talk to them about is fish.

Oh, Tom..."
when the floor is sinking because of the weight of your tanks

I live in a mobile home...

Hubby the Fearless Hunter, who asked, not so very long ago, "What do you want another aquarium for?"... now says... "You know, if we move that TV over along this wall, we can put a 125 gallon right there!

He's the obsessed one...not me!

nope, he lives in Vermont I think....

When you jump right on this site as soon as you get to work...after checking the fish.

When you get annoyed @your sister for watching tv, while your trying to watch the fish...

Yep, Shearon, I think it would be worth it for a 125.. I will have to do it myself if I don't move in another year or so. My clown loaches will need a bigger tank.

When you go into a fit of depression because you found a 200-gallon acrylic tank for only $200, which you could afford at the time, but didn't have anywhere big enough to put it!

When you can put a pair of fish in a small little tank (ie 10 gallons in the case of my brichardis) and they breed, followed by desperate re-arranging to get the fry into a big enough tank...

You can't stand the thought of people eating fish, but continue eating lamb and pork chops all the time...

You are a pre-vet student honestly considering majoring in fisheries and aquatic sciences. (fish vet, here I come!)

You are paranoid of the people there are in the world who would unknowingly put tiger barbs in a tank with angelfish... save the fish!

When you watch the temperature reports to make sure there isn't a big temperature drop for your bettas. Oh yeah, when you don't have to tune in for the weather updates/reports because you consult your bettas about whether or not there will be a storm that day.

Hey Demosthenese -- what do your bettas do to indicate weather (other than spawn when there's a change in b.p.)?

I know I'm obsessed with fish when I start brainstorming how to keep my bettas warm...

and when I have dreams that my electric yellow cichlid finally spit out her brood and run to the fry tank to see if there are any little babies.

I always get HUGE bubble nests before a storm. On several occasions, the sky has been clear, but I see that they've made a bubble nest. I go downstairs and report that there will be a storm that evening or night, and without fail, it comes.

Aquadude.... I know what you mean, I've lived in NH all my life and I'm still not used to the cold. It's already hitting 40 at night here, and we're lucky to see 55 in the day. There goes my hopes of having a betta.

*When you are more concerened about the woodstove making your tanks too hot than keeping yourself warm. (Just a note, the 30g is in the bedroom with the window open ALL day. )

We already got frost too Harley and Aquadude!!! I had to scrape it off my windows the other morning, and I've been covering my plants at night. It will only get to 50 tonight though, whew. I hope this early cold spell isn't indicative of how winter is going to be this year...last year was murder -- several ice storms!

I want a wood stove!!!! (probably can't though, I'm in a mobile home..)

I love my woodstove, it gives off better heat than gas, and keeps my heaters in the tanks from going on overload... I'm still to scared to put a betta in my 1 gal tank, because we get the kitchen up to 90 with the stove.

...When you spend more and more time every day realizing how addicted to fish you are!
...When you're obsessed about the 5 pieces of dog fur in your tanks, and could care less about the extra inch of carpet you've gained.

When you stop replying "Which one?" to the How Big Is Your Tank question, because it takes too long to list them all.

When your friends start rolling their eyes *before* you actually say anything; they know it'll be about fish.

When one of your motivators for transferring to a certain college is the star-studded local aquarium society.

When you cry because you have no acceptable pictures to enter in the AGA contest for a given year.

When you consider a $30 round-trip cab fare acceptable to visit a really incredible LFS.

When you take up cross-country biking so you can spend the cab fare on fish instead.

When you respond to "Hey Fish Geek!" instead of your real name...

When you spend your 5 minute break in chem going to the classroom next door to "watch" the SW tank bc you are dying to know what new specimens just came in...

When you call your house when you sleep over a friends to tell your parents to take a roll call for you or else you cant sleep...

When you "watch" your fish tanks as most people to TV...

When you rearrange your room the reason is because the angle that you see your fish tank from your bed isnt perfect...

When you ask your parents to drop you off at the LFS for an hour just so you can say hi to the fish...

I must admit that I do or have done all of the above...

When your weekend entertainment is going to pet stores and fish shops to look at the fish and see if there's anything you haven't kept.

When you actually can tell people how many fins fish have and what their names are (I scared a bunch of people that way even though I momentarily forgot the adipose fin...)

When you go to the store just to buy bacteria....

When you wake up stiff and sore from moving a 30 gallon tank and stand twice in one day, but can still smile cause it looks soooo good....(except for the purple gravel )

Babel, don't worry, I've gone to the LFS just for cycle (well, that was the excuse anyways) and spent an hour at the store looking at the fish.

When you take a notepad to the LFS and write down every kind of fish they have and their prices... just for reference.

When you spend $80 a month at the pet store, and only $20 is for dog food.

When you bargain shop for EVERYTHING (I mean everything) but will buy top of the line just because your fish "need" it.

When you find reasons (even if they'e fake) that you NEED to go to the LFS TODAY... almost every day.
