I have a geriatric fancy green cobra (2.5 years) and for the last six months, he spends time in a favorite spot napping. I thought he was sick and had quarantined him, tried some treatments and there is no change. I finally concluded, he is just getting old and slowing down. When the dinner bell rings, here's right there. He also spends several hours at a time frolicking with his buddy, "Buddy". I don't know how long Fancy Guppies live, but I keep hearing that 2.5 years is pretty good thus far. He was sold as a Green Cobra, tho some say he looks like a snakeskin. Its hard to see in the pic, but often times he has a kelly green sheen to him. An older picture is below. I thought this would be an interesting way to learn about geriatric fish. Please complete the sentence ba Post pictures of your geriatrics as it applies too ![]() EDIT: I just remembered something GaryRoland use to say alot. Old fish never die; they just fade away. ![]() Cory_Di attached this image: ![]() Last edited by Cory_Di at 21-Mar-2005 15:22[/font] Last edited by Cory_Di at 21-Mar-2005 15:26 |

I didn't know guppies lived that long, most of the ones me (or my coworkers, or customers) keep only live 1.5 to two years max... That's amazing. But yah, bettas do the same thing as they age... I'm so adjective, I verb nouns! |

His fins have faded patches, looks like they have javex spots on them. He sleeps all the time in his plant. Slow moving, cranky little old man. I keep watching to see that he is comfortable, I don't want him in any pain. If the time comes to put him down I know I can't do it. I will have to get my best friend to help me. I have had him so long and have enjoyed him I will be a mess when he goes. ___________________________________________ If at first you DO succeed, try not to look astonished. |

That brings another good point. You know your fish is old when he begins to beg for more fiber in his diet and wants the heat turned up ![]() Last edited by Cory_Di at 22-Mar-2005 06:46 |
