Just curious if anyone else works non-day shifts...what type of work you do, are you on a regular schedule or do you rotate, what your sleep schedule is, do you enjoy the hours you work, etc.

I works nights in a grocery store, in the GM/HBC department working stock, writing orders, doing price changes. I work 5 hour shifts 6 days a week; Sunday pay and shift premium make up for not working 8 hours. Every other week my start time changes...on our busy weeks I go in at midnight, the off weeks at 4am. My day off is Tuesday.

I've been doing this for 3 years. I enjoy the work and I like being able to do housework, shopping, appointments, and fish stuff during the day. When I get home I sleep until the spouse leaves for work, then I have a long 'nap' late in the afternoon.

I guess I'm technically an afternoon/night shift worker. My hours are from 4 to 9:30 Fridays, from 3 to 9:30 Saturdays, and from 11 to 6:30 on Sundays. I work at a large lfs, obviously in the fish department. The hours are okay, but my weekends have all been shot to flames. I'm looking forward to the summer, when I'll (hopefully) be able to give up Friday and start working two or three more days during the week. I do nights/weekends now only because of the combination of school and the 35 minute drive to get to work.

I work from 2:30 pm Saturday till 7:30 am sun, then 2:30 pm sunday till 7:30 am mon ( yep 2 double shifts)

I like that i work 32 hrs, and get paid for 40! And i have 5 days to be with the kids, take care of the house, and so on.

I work in a nursing home/retirement community. the weekends are the best- its much more relaxed.

Regular job is a "day" job...I'm down from 10 hour days to something akin to normal
Monday & Tuesday
11a-8p
Wednsday
Noon -8P
Thursday
10a-8p
Friday
10a-3p
Saturday (weekend job)
Midnight to 8a
Sunday (weekend job)
Midnight to 8a.
Right now I'm also taking dive classes which is Sunday 9a-2ishp...and to get a few hours in @the gym I have to go mornings so up @5:30 for that, and a one hour commute (both ways) for each job :%).
I've had weekend job going on 5 years and weekday job a few months after that. I did have a semi normal job @the same time (right after uni) that was more of a weekmornings job with my current weekday job being in the afternoons and shoots for dances in the evenings :%)!

Now I know why I have no life ....ah well least it reduces the risk of human interaction when you use the self check out lanes @the grocery store @8am on a saturday...all the uni students are still drunk/hungover.

I work 11pm-7am as an Emergency Services Dispatcher / 911 Operator for the Schoharie County Sheriff's Department. I dispatch 17 fire departments, 9 ems squads + 2 county ALS Paramedics, and 4 independent law enforcement agencies. I also have contact/deal with Department of Environmental Conservation, Department of Environmental Protection, New York City Water Police, New York State Power Authority, and county, state and subsequent town Departments of Public Works.

I also answer phones after hours for State University of New York College at Cobleskill, Schoharie County DA, NYS DOT, Probation, Emergency Management, Fire Coordinator, and Cobleskill Village Police, among others when conditions warrant.

I also have 16 individual 911 specific lines to deal with, 10 wireline and 6 wireless.

I also run background checks/criminal history rap sheets for multiple agencies, and enter/modify/cancel warrants of arrest, stolen cars/property, burglaries, and many other pieces of information that needs to be entered.

It's quite overwhelming at first, but you get into a routine and i like my job, eventhough all hell can break loose in a split second with one phone call, and it doesn't even have to come in on a 911 line.

My sleeping pattern is kinda screwed up, but i think it's teh best for me right now. I wake up at 10pm, be at work by 11. I get out at 7, and do what i need to do in town/errands wise after that. I'll go to bed anywhere between 1-2pm, and get up to do it all over again. My days off are tuesday/wednesday nights. On tuesday when i get out, i stay up as late as i can, usually 4-6pm. I'll get up at 6am wednesday, and go through the day like most other normal human beings. I'll go to bed around 3-4pm thursday when my weekend is over

Well, I've moved through numerous different schedules in the last year...

First, I worked for Canyon Lakes Residential Treatment Center, where I directly cared for emotionally disturbed children who were assigned to a Level 6 (max security) treatment center. I was attending school at the time, and went to school until 3pm every day, then worked from 3:30pm Friday until 8:30am Saturday, then 3:30pm Saturday until 8:30am Sunday, then 3:30pm Sunday until 12:30am Monday. This way, I covered 5 full shifts (without lunch on any shift) and went to school full-time...

I currently work for a customer service company and was in charge of about 20 people who answered the phones for AT&T Wireless/Cingular Wireless. I worked a set schedule of 4pm-1am w/ an hour lunch at 8:30pm and every Sunday/Monday off. We just got a new client (Comcast), so I'm currently in training to assume my like position with them regarding their cable TV service. I'm working 4-12:30am M-F w/ 30 min lunch for the next week and a half, then I move to a 12pm-9pm schedule (for the time being) w/ 1hr lunch...

I enjoy working the off hours. I barely sleep as is, so I end up staying up until about 7-8am anyway, so I just wish they had an overnight shift I could sign up for. It's rumored for the future, and I sure hope it's true...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I don't anymore, but if you thought YOU'RE frustrated with their service, you should be on the receiving end. I took approximately 20 customers' calls a day for the last 8 weeks, so about 800 customer calls that wanted to speak with a supervisor, and, amazingly enough, none of them wanted to tell me how much they loved the service...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.
