Pine grosses are reasonably common up north at this time of year,but I've never heard of any in MA. Looks like an American rosefinch sp...maybe housefinch?

The brown cap on the male and the lack of white eyebrows on the female give these birds away as House Finches. Purple Finches are very similar and common as well, but the male will have a red cap and the red coloration will be more extensive on the body, and females will have the previously mentioned light eyebrows.

Nor do they have such notable wingbars. There were quite a few at Penasquitos during winter break.
