Its about time.

(then again it was how i got into keeping fish)

Ended here a number of years ago....just about the time they tried using baby iguanas as prizes, and we took the midway operators off at the knees.

I haven't seen a goldfish as a prize anywhere for at least a decade... maybe I'm missing those fairs? At any rate, I hope it works and they stop it.

They still do it here. In fact that's how I got the goldfish I have now...

They still do it here.. we order the fish for them when they come to town.

Can't they just use those little electronic pets instead?

golfish are cheap, that's why. I've gotten one once from a fair in England (a few years ago) and here at the pet store a lot of people have asked about how to take care of their fair goldfish.

Some people can take good care of goldfish... but the ones they have at the fair are disease-ridden and poorly bred. Not really worth it for those who can take care of them unless they're going to feed them to a turtle or something...

Of course, goldfish aren't at all suitable for bowls. Maybe they could give away bettas or something like that. Much, much better if you're giving away anything live, bettas are really easy to care for (that's why I have one that has lived over three years)

still do it here in ontario...

People order them for birthday parties, weddings, and other events at my store. If I receive the order I refuse to do it as I am the fish room manager/director, but if the other managers receive the order, they go ahead and fill it.

They still do it at fairs here too.
