I would never do that. I just don't understand why someone would get a fish that they knew would get too big for their tank. What if your mom has any strong will at all, and she says no? Well, then you're stuck with a mudskipper in only a 10 gallon. Besides, most non-fish people don't care at all about the lives of any fish.

If you're going to get a big tank "soon", why can't you wait for the tank to get set up before getting the fish? This isn't really directed at you Daka, just a general rant. There are plenty of fish that would fit wonderfully in people's tanks, yet they insist on getting the unsuitable ones! ] ]:|

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Well, I got 2 Syno. eupterus, thinking they would max out about 3 inches. When I found out how big they get (and indeed one GOT - on its own in a 10 gallon tank in a few months)... I immediately began campaigning for a bigger home for them. Well they are now in the 60 gallon tank that used to be marine. I had to give up marine fishkeeping to get these guys a bigger home, but they got it. No way mom was going to take care of another tank when I was gone. Actually now she's down one

yes, this is not something to try, if there's a chance it won't work, but i've pulled this one off before (multiple times), and i always plan ahead and find a good sutible home before this happenes

Use a tupperware/sterilite contanier for mudskippers, they need more surface area than anything
