what do you guys think?

its not mine unfortunately, but i'm getting to the point where i want to do something, and not the standard install a window and a few LEDs. in fact, i'd rather not have a window.

i was thinking of covering it in purple cowhide and adding ears, horns and a bell (MilkaCase) but its just going to overheat.
this idea was inspired by this box

any thoughts? ideas?

my recent thoughts involve painting it blue and then putting a cartoon betta on the side... but i dont know.

I was thinking of getting one of those mousewheels from jaycar (with a fake mouse of course) and putting that inside my pc so people can see that it is working.

It shouldn't overheat if you have properly working fans. Most cases are designed with a specific airflow pattern in mind, just don't mess that up.

I kinda like the flames, but what doesn't have those fake looking everyday flames on it anymore? The super mario 2 lookin' like one is neat I say you get a mini-fridge, ditch the case altogether and build the computer back up inside the fridge, then paint the fridge. Cold electronics work faster than hot electronics!! and you can even store a cold one for your casual browsing experiences.

there was a funny story on slashdot yesterday about a guy that was using a 1978 Corolla radiator to cool his processor. NOW THERES A MOD!

Back in '94 I just used wood contact paper on my case (classy!).

LOL classic Cally

You're right though, covering it in fur or such would be pushing it heat-wise, esp in Aus.

You _could_ use a lot of extra fans, but even then it will get mighty hot (that's the reason good cases use alloys that conduct the heat off faster too) you can suck the air out but radiant heat will still build up, and if you're using an Athlon or such it's just a mini-space heater... not the greatest recipe for a stable system

The mini fridge idea is sweet *hic*

My buddy modded a case for his bro a year or so ago, he custom cut-out a shaped window and then did a design in red spray-paint on the base case color of black - was awesome (unfortunately I never got pics).

At least if you go the painting route you have a functional work of art, and it sure as heck will be one of a kind

yeah, i'm very tempted. I found a young lass who can do wikkid cartoon fish. I'm thinking maybe a betta case.
Possibly painting the actual fish on really thin ply or MDF so when i upgrade i can take it with me i'm tempted to cut a fishbowl-shaped window and put blue perspex in there, but i'm not a big fan of the perspex windows.
definately getting castors and handles, maybe in wrought iron or something like that...

I like the cases with fake fish swimming around in them.

Oh my gosh! Puggle, for a second there I thought you meant having REAL fish in the computer! You almost gave me a heart attack! Anyway, if its not real fish, then the fish idea is wonderful, but since I am a fish fanatic, go the fish painted on it! Oh, and Calla, if it turns out good, get that person to paint a Betta on my computer.

Adam has that Lian Li mod

I wasn't going to put this up as its a bit controversial [link=http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/hotboxpix/stevenpurplefishboxlarge.jpg]http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/hotboxpix/stevenpurplefishboxlarge.jpg" style="COLOR: #990066[/link]
The fish are not housed there permanently, i'd say it was just for the photo, but the owner did make a big point that the fish were never in there when the PC was runnng.

sniff - so does tiny_clanger, but noone ever remembers

Anyway - I couldnt see the cowhide being too much of a problem if you invested in very good fans, constidered cutting a porthole out the top of your case for a 120mm fan and found a case which had front fans which blew air over your HDD's. I'd also get a decent heatsink, use some decent thermal grease and use rounded cables to maximise the airflow within the case. If it can idle at 40-45C, then you shouldnt have a problem.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions
