I was thinking of going to h.i.m. but i'm not really into the other bands playing, so if i do its only gonna be for one band.

I've never been a huge concert-goer, but I've been to a fair bit the last couple of years, mainly due to getting press passes to things - had backstage passes to Splendour in the Grass this year! Not like hanging-with-the-rock-stars, just a separate seating area set up especially for media off to the side of the main stage, a few metres from the bands. I've been to a few other music festivals too, but that was the best.

The best one-band concert I've ever been to was Violent Femmes last year, also on a press pass. That was definitely the top musical experience of my life. I was very prepared to have Radiohead take out that title in Melbourne, April this year, but it was cancelled the day of the concert. Still grieving .

*is sooo jealous of devon7 for seeing The Cure live*

Tea Party is coming to Brisbane in December, I'm very keen to see them .

bow playing reminds me of spinal tap, nigel tufnell playing his guitar with a series of differently sized actual violins. chuckle.
mogwai are ace live. hopefully devon noticed this when she saw them. just found out that slint, who basically invented the mogwai-type-genre, are reforming next year to play some british dates. greatest news.

Haven't been in years.Nobody comes to Asia .

Been to some great gigs in Dublin, though.

Sprinsteen's the man live. Saw him in Dublin years ago, he brought on Jerry Lee Lewis and Bono for an encore of old '50's tunes.

Van Morrison can be totally crap or amazing depending on his mood. Seen him do his thing with Bob Dylan , also In Dublin.

Ah, happy days. I had hair then, lots !

Like the Something Like Silas guitarist I was talking about have a bow (like for a violin, but shorter) that he ran across the strings... I've never heard or thought of such a thing used for guitar!

Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) has been doing that for 35 years

wow Lou Reed & Bad Religion - I would love to see these bands. I heard Ministry was amazing live - they are so genius, I would love to see them as well.
I have seen a number of concerts. Some of the funnist ones I have been to include, Danzig and Tool.
But I will say this, a friend of mine implored me to go to a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds concert. I did not even own a CD of theirs. A number of people told me that his live shows were the best concerts that they have ever seen. I read some article that Henry Rollins wrote and he also said that one day he wishes he could have a live performance like his.
I went to the concert and it was by far and away the best sounding concert I ever went to - a lot of cool people were in all age groups were there as well. I would suggest rather demand that if he comes to your area with the Bad Seeds (he does not always travel with them) - you must see them.

Bad Religion here in Buffalo, they know how to rock(they've only been doing it for 20+ years). I also saw Goldfinger/Reel Big Fish in colorado a couple years back, and that was a good show. I also saw Green Day at warped tour, and they set the drums on fire. biggest crowd EVER. Can you tell I like the punk?

Now I think I'm too old for concerts, especially the punk shows, because afterwards I tend to complain about my neck/back/knees/whatever hurting.

yeah i've seen phish twice it was a fun show, one of the times they had george clinton and p-funk as a surprise guest! that was pretty damn cool.

well, they've only had p-funk and clinton one time, which was last year's NYE show. so did you get tickets for that one too? i've never made it to one of those shows because of pricey tickets + pricey hotel + pricey airfare = broke moondog

you have to tell me how le tigre were, i love bikini kill, and kathleen hanna can do very little wrong.
i used to get to a lot of shows when i was at uni, but now i'm back in rural isolation it's not happening quite so much.
went to the benicassim rock festival in spain this summer though, that was wicked, really good mix of bands, lou reed, brian wilson, ash, einsatze neubaten (however you spell it), a huge beach 15mins formthe campsite, and a street with places dedicated to selling whole litres of vodka and fanta (and, sadly, lots of ice) for 6euros a go until 4 in the morning. basically heaven.
i might go to all tomorrow's parties this christmas to see shellac, lightning bolt and so on, but may not have the cash. i went to it 3 years ago and saw the best concert ever, by melt banana. anyone who likes live music needs to try and catch melt banana next time they're in your country. it's a shame their records aren't quite as good as the shows.
The one band i need to see but never manage to is sonic youth. they may be the oldest people alive right now, but i still imagine that they'd be awesome live.

Yeah, and this David Crowder concert was really small (about 600 people came, that's about how many seats there were). It was cool to be in such a cozy space, but the bad part is the sound system kept making some pretty bad feedback...

Anyway, I love going to concerts (would go to more, but lack the funding and transportation), for the music (it's always just a hair different in concert), and to see some of the innovative techniques people use...

Like the Something Like Silas guitarist I was talking about have a bow (like for a violin, but shorter) that he ran across the strings... I've never heard or thought of such a thing used for guitar!
