He'd be a rainbow popsicle.

I just placed a sizeable order with That Pet Place for Food, and a new Master Test Kit, which I replace yearly. They have them cheapest at around $14.99. Since I'm home sick and don't get out, I figure I would order it. Then, the snow.

I had just checked the FEDEX shipper number and it was due today. My chemicals and food are probably half frozen in some truck somewhere

I've emailed both Jungle and AP - the two manufacturers of products that became popsicles. We'll see what they say.

Any chance of you getting your money back? Or at the very least finding out if the accuracy is still there after it thaws? I need to get some more tests while I am out this week. I only have ammonia and PH left. Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the order. Out of curiousity though, how are you feeling?

It got here and everything was like popsicles . I took it directly from the Fedex guy. It sat in the truck all weekend due to the snowstorm.

Maybe you can leave a note on your door and ask the FedEx man to deliver it to the elderly lady next door if you are not home. I am sure she would be happy to accept the package for you after having her courtyard shoveled. Better than leaving it to be a frozen loss of money. Just an idea! I would have left a note, but somehow I think the package had a better chance of getting to me sitting on the front steps than it did if the neighbor accepted it for me. He spent 10 years in prison for being a thief! I have him convinced that my sweet dog is trained to attack if we are not home. LOL! Little does he know, she is kennel trained and is not even out when we are gone. LOL!

Oh my! It dawned on me that I will be gone for a few hours Monday morning. Watch, with my luck the box will be sitting on the porch and all will be frozen like a brick.

Cory, I saw a fish that looked EXACTLY like yours at the LFS in a display tank. They said it was a Turqoise rainbow too. It is a gorgeous fish!

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I don't blame you. Maybe you can call the manufacturers and find out what sort of exposure they can endure and still be accurate (assuming it is not right on the packaging). Or perhaps you can compare it with tests that have not been exposed to extreme temps. FedEx must be running slow these days. My items came a day late too. Then they left them on my doorstep where anyone could take them because I was at the doctor's office when they came. I was pretty ticked about that. For all he knew he was delivering something that could not sit in the snow for hours and still be okay.

Thankfully, I have nothing live. I'm concerned about the validity of my tests with any kit I receive that may have been exposed to really low temps. .

Oh man! That stinks! I just got a FedEx shipment a couple of days ago (special stones and such for making jewelry), the stones were SO cold when I opened that box that I could barely touch them!

As much as there are some things I want to order right now (mostly cherry red shrimp and more java fern), I would never ship anything live in this weather. Too risky!

"Jelly Bean" implies dyed to me. This little guy is a rainbow of some sort. I would LOVE to bring him home with me. If the weather were not so bad I would beg cory to ship him to me.

It kind of looks like the tetra I was looking for awhile back, called a Jelly Bean Tetra.

That probably explains the size discrepancies. There are many fish that attain one size in aquaria and another outside of it, or in very large aquariums.

I believe the max size for Melanotaenia lacustris is 5-6 inches but it is rare to see them this size. Most seem to be around 3in. Melanotaenia tend to be slow growers, which is probably the reason for not seeing many that are around the 5-6 in mark.

I'm so pleased with how the wee guy is finally beefing out. However, I've been off work since December 22. I didn't go back when work resumed Jan 3, because of asthmatic bronchitis. Needless to say, the wee guy has been getting fed very well 4-5 times daily instead of the usual twice during the week and 4-5 times on the weekend. He gets it all too - Hikari Micro Pellets and all Hikari F.D. Foods (daphnia, bloodworms, brineshrimp) and occasionaly frozen food.

What is the max size of a Turquoise? I'm getting conflicting info on the web where I'm finding max size 2.5 inches versus 3-3/4 to 4-1/4 inches. Which is it for those who have actually had or seen them as full grown adults?

One other possibility is this that I found and PicOlio.com. Like - does anyone know if this is our PicOlio? If so, does anyone have contact info?

Look at these rainbow fish - New Guinea

I'm looking for all the help I can get as I'm determined to ID this guy. Maybe it will just take time.

One of the reasons I'm so desperate to ID him is that I'm about to move him from the 10 gallon to my 20 long community for more room. It will be slightly crowded and I'm hoping he will be a smaller variety, otherwise I'll have to capture him and take him to Pruess Pets, a respectable pet store in Lansing that actually quarantines all incoming. Sarah (Wolfie3118) works there, or at least still did when I last spoke with her.

Here's another with more detail taken some 6 weeks after the one above. I have had difficulty finding that striking blue hue I caught at that one angle when I took the pic weeks ago. But when I turn a tank light on, I even see a sea green irridescence to his scales, especially around his head area. Maybe it is a Turquoise as many believe.

This image looks strikingly similar to this:

If you find out, let me know.

Here are some recent pics. We know its a rainbow, but there's debate about the type. I don't know the age, but he's about 2.5 inches (or 62.5mm). I got him at the larval stage from my nephews, frog tank. The frog had died and I had seen the larva living in there, figuring it would be eaten, but he evaded capture for weeks. When the frog died I put him in my 10 gallon to try to raise. That was about October I think.
