What have they DONE to it?

The old bbc version was much better. The one that was like a television series, ya know?

*sigh* ANOTHER good book ruined.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

the movie is not supposed to be faithful to the book, or the radio series janna. the script is almost exactly what DNA himself wrote before he died, so the movie is still going to be his vision for the most part.

Looks pretty good, although I think the music sounds a little bit off... too serious or something. It is not the sort of music I expected to hear on a Hitchiker's Guide trailer, you know? Maybe I didn't expect any.

I will, of course, go see it....but I know I will still like the old BBC telly series far better.

Moon...you should have come to our local big reptile show and sale about 18 months back when a friend of mine and I were hawking bags of "Slartibartmoss", "Zaphod Beeblebark", and "Magrathea Sand". Sold bloody brilliantly, too.

It might be a good movie. It looks fun. I just hope it is going to be a good intelligent comedy/sci-fi movie and not another CGI/wise-cracking remake movie that hollywood is bringing out constantly these days.

There is going to be a 'war of the worlds' movie released this year and it has tom cruise in it (one strike), It is set at present date (two strikes) and it is set in America (three strikes! youre out!). Um.... its not quite the english victorian sci-fi movie that I was hoping it was going to be.

I think I'll maybe rent that one out on video and not pay full ticket price at the box office.

Anyway, Ive deviated quite a bit here... Yes I am looking forward to seeing the Hitch-hikers movie. I wonder if it will finish in the way the TV series ended or whether it will go on from that point like the radio series.....

Troy - that can't possibly be War of the Worlds in anything other than name. If they try to pull that off as being "after the book", I will be very mad. I didn't like the book so much, but it was definitely not like that, and that is an offense to any writer to take his writings and change them that much! I agree with you on the not some CGI/wisecracking remake movie too. *shudders*

Toirtis - Zaphod Beeblebark!

troy, i get the impression that the war of the worlds movie will be based on the orson welles radio play and not the actual book

also, the director of hitchhiker's guide has been working with the adams family () to make sure the screenplay stays true to his vision of what the movie should be like. so i don't think it will be much different than what the man himself would have liked to have seen.

True moondog it may be based loosely on orson welles' radio play. Thing is they should advertise it that way eg:"orson welles' war of the worlds" or "war of the worlds. ...based on orson welles' radioplay".

Im sure theres going to be a few disgruntled, mislead movie goers after seeing it though.
