Ive looked in pet stores but cant find hamsters?(I keep on forgetting to ask the staff why)are they banned in austrailia?(if they are why)

They're definately banned. Don't know why they're banned, though. Some idiot from England who's never been to Australia before probably thought they'd endanger our native wildlife so they made another stupid law to ban a fairly harmless peice of snake food.

You can find them if you know the right people, just don't get caught with them.

Our native rodents are alot more interesting then some exotic inbred rat without a tail, anyway.
The only ones you can keep in NSW are the plains rat and the spinifex hopping mouse.
For more information about banned animals call the NPWS in Hurstville. Forget petshops, they're useless.

Edit- Also, you need a licence to keep native rodents, again, ask the NPWS if you're interested.

Rabbits have been established in Australia long before anyone thought of these laws. They're here to stay forever, so banning them nation wide is a waste of time.
They are banned in QLD, though.
Guinea pigs don't really have what it takes to start up feral populations, they're pretty harmless.
