well i wake up this morning and my snake is all happy slithering around its cage. all seems fine so i got to church. Well i come back from church (after doing some grocery shopping) sit down at the computer take a quick brake to browse the forums. then i go upstairs to do my WC for my 20G. i look over that the snake tank, don't see the snake in its usual spot...hmm odd he must be behind the piece of wood. i slowly walk over and i see the black and white patterns of his belly in the waterdish, i think "oh hes soaking himself mayb hell shed soon". get closer and i see his head upside down under the water surface "uh oh" i think. i quickly pop the lid open and pull him out of the water as if by some chance in heaven that he might be alive... hes not, his forked tongue a dull gray poking out the edge of his mouth...i just look at it examine its body for something, anything that would give me the cause of this horrid death.... it seems to me no matter what animal it would be smart enough to lift its head out of the water, so something must have gone wrong. i examine its body... still nothing i panic is go hysterical not another one (my first snake died in a similar mysterious fashion, my second snake escaped...and now this....why WHY). i snapped some pics of him to post in a reptile forum somewhere in hopes of some answers...mayb i can find someone who will do an autopsy... i don't get it it was fine 4 hours ago and now its.... gone. . i ll never keep another snake again, even though i want to. id post pics but don't thin u guys really want to see a dead snake. RIP Bahamut

Awww meggy...

Did you feed it in the cage? what were you feeding it? did that spot go away we discussed or was it not a shed? Are you sure the plants were safe? I hope it wasn't TOO humid, they're desert snakes and too much humidity can cause respiratory infections...

i wanna see the pic, e-mail if you wish.

oh yea, what was the temp?

So sad to hear about the loss of your snake. My husband and I did not have much luck with the snake I bought for him either. We had a baby ball python. Somehow he pulled a magic trick on us and completely disappeared from his aquarium... he was found crawling across the freshly cleaned kitchen floor a few days later. Needless to say, the chemicals he managed to absorb from the floor had him gone within a couple of hours of finding him. Poor little guy. My husband still has not gotten another one after the loss of his baby. Hopefully you manage to find out the cause of your mysterious losses. Good luck if you decide to get another one.

Snakes have congenital defects, too...and they can suffer sudden death from heart attacks, etc. The only way to be certain as to cause of death would be to perform a necropsy within 24 hours of death.
