My wife doesn't understand Multi-tank syndrome. I've just aquired a 5 footer and she tells me I must get rid of the 3 ft if I want to set up the 5ft in the lounge room. Problem being not many spare walls for fish tanks so while I wait a couple of weeks for the cabinet to be made for it what can I tell her to convince her I MUST keep the 3ft as well as have the 5ft too?

Let her pick out some of the fish for the new tank, then she'll feel like its part her tank too.

Do you have another room you could set the 3 footer up in? Hall, bedroom, diningroom? Maybe tell her you are giving her the 3 footer and she can have it just the way she wants.

Having just one tank when you can enjoy more tanks is like:

Having only one friend
Only 1 pair of dress shoes
One song play over and over on the stereo
Only one bookcase and dreams of library stocking

You get the idea, apply to your wifes (MSS) Multiple Something Snydrome

Doedog: Great idea. A trip to the LFS with wifey coming up.
Light_bright:big house with lots of wall space used up. I've got a small 2 ft tank in the entrance hall already. We,ve got lots of big windows that use ideal fish tank space and I don't want to put them into direct sunlight.
Puddle cat: Maybe I can apply your theory to the wife...threaten to get a second one if she doesn't let me keep this tank!

Thanks for the ideas, folks!

Hey James, not quite the plan I had in mind. Be careful there, she may get on the board and ask us for advice too! LOL

It's great living on my own. I can have as many tanks as I want. Only downside is, I don't have the money to turn my home into a public aquarium

I agree with Babel; if she doesn't understand now, she never will.

*agree's with Twin and Keith*

My parents/siblings don't understand it, but they've learned to cope with it.

My recent MTS miracle was bringing home a 4 footer, and convincing the parents to get rid of a couch for it. Still trying to figure out how I pulled that one off...

With Steph, a good way is to try to get them involved, my mom is already loving the sw adventure. She's becoming addicted but she won't admit to it. G/L

Ferretfish, I'm impressed! My wife won't let me get rid of a couch...I've tried but I've managed to get the all-clear to move things in the lounge room and I've managed to get her interested in choosing some fish but you're right...they'll never understand.

No James they will never understand, just like my little sis and her twin have said. My B/F loves my two tanks but when I bring up getting another one I get the weirdest looks and he doesn't even live with me

I don't agree with the idea of giving the 3 ft to her, she might do something drastic, like turn it into a planeterium (isn't that the thing where you make an inside plant box type of contraption out of a fishtank?) Or since it's hers she might decide to move it out

Letting her help choose the fish helps with the anxiety of having another tank...One in the bedroom is great .

What could we put over one of these windows so he has tank space?

Best of luck, Heidi

Speaking of trading in spouses for ones with MTS, I need to trade in a perfectly good husband who tries to make me trade in tanks, consolidate, etc, and does not understand why anyone would need more than one tank. I tried explaining it to him in a way he would understand (it's like only NEEDING one guitar or bass, but WANTING more than one). *sighs* Was not all that effective! LOL!

We all need an MTS support group...

And since there are all these online dating groups...maybe there needs to be one for MTS...I can see it now:

"Meet those like yourself that suffer from the same syndrome...MTS. Yes, you can meet the person of your dreams, and you can both enjoy just going to you LFS to stare for hours. And when the other brings in the newest you too will understand! Call now 1-800-MTS-LOVE Call now and get the first 3 months free, 1-800-MTS-LOVE!"

Hey, I'll sign up for that ... especially if I can find a wife who is not only an MTS patient, but looks like Luna in the Charles Edward Hallé painting ...

See http://groups.msn.com/CaliLasseiasGiantPhotoCompendium/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=9 for a look at Luna and see why I want to meet an MTS patient like her
