Guppylove,
To answer your question, something is morally wrong when it is illegal where a particular individual lives, yet that individual still chooses to commit the illegal act. Where I live, someone caught abusing or killing domestic animals such as cats or dogs for food would be prosecuted accordingly. This topic unfortunately went in the wrong direction. This site is about fish. Perhaps you should visit www.aspca.org for any additional questions you may have on my comment. Thanks.

I eat fish, but could NEVER eat one of my pets. I'm sure I would have the same problem if I kept cows! Luckily, I only have a 60gal tank, and cows won't fit!

I did however once grill up a halibut steak, and was eating it at the table my betta was on. After a few bites, I saw him looking at me, and felt guilty and had to go eat it somewhere else. But I didn't STOP eating it.

My Grampa was a fisherman, and I can eat no chicken and no meat. I only eat fish and eggs. Otherwise, I am vegetarian.

I like fish anyway, fried, in curry, sandwiches. MMMMM....

Well, due to several bad occurances with chicken and red meat as a child, I rarely eat the stuff. So I make up with it by eating lots and lots and lots and lots of seafood.

The only way I can do it though, is to pretend that they were never alive. Because once it was alive, it had a face, and a name. And we shouldn't eat things with names.

In my culture, eating cats is disgusting and morally wrong. But I know there are those in the world who do, I feel bad for them that food is that scarce. I could not even imagine.

Can you explain to me why it is morally wrong? It may upset you, but that doesn't make something morally wrong... I don't eat cat, and I don't find the prospect appealing, but I'm not going to judge it as morally wrong.

In a lot of places they don't eat it necessarily because food is scarce and they have no choice, but rather because it is considered a delicacy.

Nothing beats fresh caught fish after a day at the lake..
I'm eating a bit less fish these days but still nuts over shrimp and salmon. Have to go fishing again I guess, it's been awhile. Mmmmm pass the lemon and Luisiana hot sauce... Also tried Sushi lately and REALLY enjoyed it.. Couldn't believe how much I ate..

I love seafood. Any kind, except maybe oysters because of the sand in them. Frogs legs are nice too. I can't say I'm big on the idea of cat or dog, though there are cultures that eat those. As far as I'm concerned the only thing defining food from pet is how hungry you are and how available food is. Heck its the only thing that seperates good friends from good food on a desert island

For a fish to be eaten, and feed someone's family, that's an honorable reason to die. i have no problem with eating fish. buying 49 cent feeder fish and keeping them in a bowl until they die and then just replacing them with another 49 cent feeder fish is not honorable, and that disgusts me. I just cooked up some wonderful basa the other day... yummy!

It isn't the idea of eating fish that I don't like. It is the taste and the smell. I HATE it. Blech. If I liked the taste, the fact that I keep fish wouldn't stop me from eating them.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

After keeping fish, shrimp, etc for awhile, I don't find it hard to eat the ocassional fish at a resturant or fry some myself, but I don't think I could go fishing and clean my catch and all that anymore. Also, after watching shrimp in my tanks I think I'm done eating those as well. As far as shellfish, I never liked clams/crabs/lobster in the first place.
