I've taken on some responsibilities for Dad's company.

I am writing up product info sheets for a whole bunch of herbal extracts and the like... but i'm stuck on what to start on, or what to include in the info

Do you have a herb or extract that you particularly like

*looks hopeful*

Here is the current list to choose from:

My first choice would be Artemesia absinthum, but since that isn't there, I am going with kudzu.

hey, does anyone know the translation for "Bai Guo Ye"?

Is it a common name for anything in any country?

Heya Cally,

"Bai Guo Ye" seems to = Ginkgo biloba

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=%22Bai+Guo+Ye%22&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

I dont use herbs myself often, but Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) would be worth checking out (I've had mixed results with it in the past, but know people who swear by it)

I'm going with Sassafras because it's a very handy plant (I've learned about it in my Dendrology class... just yesterday our TA was telling us how dead sassafras branches burn better than anything else... but besides that it smells and I'm told tastes wonderful)

Dong Qui

Agnus Castus

Echinacea

Goldenseal

St. Johns Wort

Edit: *cough* now I'll go and look at the list we had to choose from..!!

Comfrey is a great infection healer. Blue/black Cohosh are very powerful herbs often used in ladies ailments. Raspberry Leaf is used during and post pregnancy for a few different things.

Feverfew is good for headaches especially in combination with white willow bark, one I didn't see on there was sage, which makes a good gargle for sore throats and has a lot of other traditional uses. Foxglove is interesting, it can be used for heart conditions in very small amounts but it's highly toxic.

An interesting one that you might want to look into researching on your own (because I doubt there'd be much business in selling it) is aconite, which has been used historically as a poison. It was the herb used to make the sleeping potion in Romeo and Juliet. It also has medicinal uses in very low doses.

Using a feverfew extract prophylactically against migraines is apparently quite effective.

Aconite grows like weeds all over my city....the active alkaloid is insanely poisonous, but is most concentrated in the root mass. Aconite has been used many, many times in murders and suicides through history, and can be added to an ointment to ease joint and muscle pain, but the risk of accidental overdose even in such a use is too high for it to be marketed.

I have in recent years maintained a herb garden that consisted of Belladonna atropa, Aconitum napellus, Artemesia absinthum, Datura stramonium, Datura inoxia, Hyoscyamus niger, Origanum dictamnus, Salvia divinorum, Strychnos toxifera, Papaver somniferum, and Conium maculatum....just 'cause.

Hi Call. You mention things to include on fact sheets. V important is the fact that some herbs have contra indications for people with high blood pressure or diabetes as they increase circulation etc. Some also increase photo sensitivity so shouldn't be applied topically if going into direct sun and some shouldn't be applied topically.

There are legal implications to saying preparations have certains actions so the wording is very important. Check it out online. Sometimes wording states "may be helpful in the treatment of..."

All the best
