laggy connections are usually ISP and location related. so either. move house. or change ISPs thats what i'd do.

games lag because of your ping.

The higher ping you have, the more laggy you will be.

Usually if you have wireless internet, your pings will be VERY high (in the 1000's) and dialup offers the second worse pings of about 500ms.

I have cable, and my pings are around 12-25ms

Try pinging google by going Start>run, type in CMD and hit run> type in ping www.google.com> it will ping google 5 times, and it will give you your average in ms (milliseconds)

This will tell you what your ping acually is.

You cannot change your ping unless you switch ISP's, or like mentioned, move.

EDIT* Do you have a wireless router? that could be why.

the reason ur having so much trouble is that socom 1 and 2 are made for broadband. dialup just cant handle everything thats happening on that game. ur options are to either get dsl or a cable internet service. cable would be ur best bet IMO. good luck n good hunting. maybe ill see ya on there sometime. i go by the handle *snake^eyez*

sure, they're 179 to google, but google doesn't matter unless you're using the google site... they differ for every other website. Ping times change constantly with usage, congestion, proper working order of equipment, etc etc etc and 179 today could be 400 tomorrow, or even 2 minutes from now. Pinging is cool to do so you can see some numbers, but IMO it means absolutely nothing. I guess it's not TOTALLY useless if you want to ping a server before you hop on to see generally how quick your connection is :-'
