happy hannukah/kwanzaa/winter solstice/merry christmas/feliz navidad/holidays.

Circle whatever applies.

blah blah blah.

I work retail. I can't wait for the day to be over so I can get on with my life without working 55 hour weeks and getting yelled at for ruining someone's holiday because they misspelled a name/place/word on their card.

And making three different designs for their jewish/christian/agnostic/athiest/whatever friends (once again, circle whatever applies to you)

and yes, i'm tired of political correctness.

mods - feel free to delete this post. 13 hour work day does not make me a happy retail worker.

and while we're on this... does anyone know 200+ people PERSONALLY??? I mean, we had someone order 800 cards to send out to friends and family. I can understand if you're a business and sending out to clients, but personally, 800 people?!?!?!?!

Does one KNOW how much money that is - not only for the cards ($500 thereabouts), but also stamps, time and whatever?

ARRGGHHHH!!!!!

Yes, its that wonderful time of the year.

So from a poor disgruntled and abused retail worker - remember, we're people too! Please be nice to us!

-- L

edited to add the following - one more thing (and this can go on for a while), when you've got three people manning the counter, and have another 10 people in the store waiting to get served, please don't yell at us. Please don't talk on your cell phone (thats another rant I'll leave for another day) and yell at us for wanting to get served - we won't help you. Its rude.

Anyway I digress....

Back to the orinal. We see ten, twenty, maybe thirty different greeting card orders PER DAY. We cannot be asked every five minutes to see what picture you like better out of the possible 200 candidates for this years photo. And what should you write? should you write your last name? well, if the recipient doesn't know who you are by now, maybe they don't deserve your card. And I'm not worried about the crop. Most people would probably recieve the card and throw them out after christmas anyway. Why spend so much money on this venture. I don't get it.

please. enlighten me as to why I should really worry about how you should edit your photo? Once again, I don't care. I see 30 per day. Not to mention the other 200 orders of varying sorts I get in during that time. You'll get my undivided attention until someone starts screaming at me.

Forgive me people. Its been a looooong day, and this time of year brings out the worst in people.

So if you're still out shopping. Tell whoever is helping you, a big thank you. Out of all the abuse, its all we need right now is a little pick me up

Thats it, I'm finished.

I sort of know how you feel... At work this time of year I have to constantly deal with people demanding a tank perfectly set up with tons fish in it sitting under their tree for their bratty kids Christmas morning. And then they get all ticked at me as I try to explain that it simply isn't possible.

At work we usually only have four people working at any given time, and usually this is more than enough. But sometimes the entire city decides to come into our store at precisely the same moment, and they start getting angry when we can't help all of them all at once.

And then there's a the people who pick out exactly which Neon Tetras they want in tank of about forty of them which look identical, and then get angry when you can't catch them.

Ah, to be out of retail. I worked retail for a scant 4.5 years, and yes, i miss it. Sometimes. I work best under pressure, so i like having a lot of people around. But when people get rude, i could care less if i ever see them again.

I don't mind being flat out all day, but who i really despised were the people who walk in, run right to you and start asking for things even when you're with another customer. dOOd, wait your turn. You're helped in the order you walked in, period. I don't care if you just want a dozen crickets, the guy before you wants a complete beardie setup.

Lisa - you're a professional, people ask your opinon because they trust you. Maybe it's time for a vacation.

Retail + Holiday Season = :%):%)]:|]:|

Continuing rant....

when a store associate is helping another customer, WAIT UNTIL HE/SHE IS DONE BEFORE ASKING FOR HELP!

And do not take someone's time if you are not going to buy something. I can't stand it when I talk to someone for 30, 40, 50, 80 minutes and they don't buy anything, and there are about 20 other GROUPS of people who need help. it is your job to learn about aquariums, but don't ask complex questions which have complex answers which you cannot understand!!!

We close at 9. Not 9:05, not 9:15, NOT 9:45!! Heres a tip, if all the other stores are closed, and we close at the same time.... WE'RE CLOSED!!

If you are buying stuff, then sure, we can help you past our closing time, BUT DO NOT WAIT TILL 9:15 TO LEAVE AFTER YOU'VE FINISHED LOOKING!!!

No you cannot feed the piranhas a fish other than goldfish... we don't care if you pay for it or not... we don't care if its sick or not... just NO.

Also, working at a vet hospital is sad during this time of year. Many people realize that they won't have time to take care of their elderly/sick dog/cat and decide to put it down.

Ya know, i used to be concerned with that. But mostly it was the opening time. We opened comparitively 'late' at 10am. I'd always let people in early who've been waiting. I let someone in at 9:30 or so, and i was by no means done opening shop. She proved to be my biggest single sale ever, buying multiple puppies, large bird cages and supplies
