Just a little vent...

The other night Racso and I were running a few errands, so we were driving around. At one point we were about to make a right turn onto Five Mile (A), but found it blocked by a police cruiser and flares. The road goes uphill, so we couldn't really see what was going on. We decided to try to find out, so we took a couple connector roads to the other end of Five Mile (follow the red line). What we found at the intersection of State and Five Mile (B) horrified us. There were 7 or 8 cruisers, 2 firetrucks, and 2 cars that made rumpled tin foil look smooth as glass.

Here's what happened:

Someone ran the red light that is at that intersection and smashed into another car. Since this was right in front of a hospital, we saw a helicoter come in to take a victim to a downtown hospital for advanced care. Now, because some idiot couldn't wait not even 5 minutes for a light to change, someone is dead. The passenger in the car that was hit died early yesterday morning.

My point:

It is ridculous that there is a family out there that lost a loved one just 5 days before Christmas because someone was so selfish that they couldn't find it in them to wait a couple minutes for their turn. That just tears my heart out to think about. That passenger (I know it was a woman) was somebody's daughter... somebody's granddaughter... and for all I know she was somebody's mother, she could have been a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a wife... though she is nameless to me (I heard her name once but I don't remember it), she certainly didn't deserve to go in such a horrific way.

Please, every once in a while take the time to consider others, not just yourself. I'm guilty of selfishness too, but seeing that wreck really made me think. After all, isn't the holiday season supposed to be about having a kind and giving spirit?

It is stuff like this that really makes me hate this time of year. I love Christmas, but I DESPISE the commercialism and greediness that come with it.

*steps off soap box*

At least your hospital could do something. People hre can get beaten to a pulp outside a hospital and because of feat of legal action, nobody but the ambos can touch them

I am sorry to the family of these 2. Even though they will probably never see this, my heart goes out to those they left behind.

And may the very impatient person have a long and vivid memory.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

i see this all the time where people *have* to get in front of someone because they can't wait a few seconds for traffic to clear so that they're not in anybody's way when they pull out ]:| it's so sad that these people have to kill someone to figure out these little things...

Very nasty accident yesterday here. Icy roads, lots of traffic, low sun. Nobody's fault, but very tragic all the same.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

pretty much summs up my thoughts.

this time of year, hubby and I go to work (well, hubby works from home but he takes me to work) and come home. No going anywhere, as people just suck. We had one guy nearly tail end us a few days ago - just came speeding up behind us with not a care in the world.

This happens everywhere - and so do accidents. Unfortunately, MOST of these accidents are PREVENTABLE if people would drive SAFELY.

*sigh*

Slippery sloap fallacy. The same thought in peoples mind that they can exceed a speed limit, or not use their blinker, or slide thru an amber light, or drive after they've been drinking....it all leads to this...death.

Laws are laws, ther're not put there for the good of the trees or grass, they're there to try and help preserve and protect human life. We just had a major road closed this morning near the pentagon because an oil truck exploded and killed the driver. Little doubt is there in my head that he was speeding. Was it his fault that he died from speeding, not necessisarily, it seems the peer pressure that everyone on the roads that exceeds the speed limit and forces others to as well is to blame.

And there goes another possible blog entry, ah well....and people wonder why I try my hardest to drive as close to the speed limit as possible, while everyone else is driving 30mph over.

you know babel, if you want people to drive as slow as you, then you need to help change the culture of america to one that doesn't demand that people get things done 2 days ago our society doesn't reward those who get there on time, they reward those who get there first.

anyway, something sort of what happened to gartzen, but with a twist happened today in milwaukee. some lady tried to cash a bogus check at a bank up in the suburbs (about an hour from my house, give or take). my friend and i drove past the accident not long after it happened. she had gone through the drive thru of the bank, tried to cash a bogus check, and when the bank told her she should come inside and give a thumb print, she took off and led police on a high speed chase through 3 counties before running a red light and killing an 80 year old man who was in the passenger seat of a car. as soon as her car came to a stop she got out and put her hands up and an officer was right there to arrest her. so instead of facing a few years for forging a check, she's now looking at a couple decades in prison for this stunt. and it didn't have to happen

That happens all the time...

This county has been without a strucutre fire for over a year, and in the last two days, there have been 3. Think of those people.

Not an accident, but another example of the greediness of the season:

Today we got the first part of a HUGE snow storm. The roads were, and still are, AWFUL. I was at work (Hallmark, in a mall) and we had to close early because all 5 people scheduled at night couldn't make it in (2 were in a ditch when they called). Would the mall close? NOPE!! Would they have closed if it was after Christmas? YOU BET!! Because of the greed for the almighty dollar, a ton of empolyees of the mall had to risk their safety just so shoppers could come in and spend their money and make the mall a few dollars richer. TOTAL BULL CARP!!!!!

Grow a pair and tell them to stuff it, because you're too smart to try and go out in it...

My merry morning was a bit dampened by hearing that in my city, a family had to flee their home in the early morning, as their too-ambitious light display caused a fire that completely levelled their home.
