it's cancerous and the vet doesn't want to operate cause they can't get enough skin to cover the hole once they're done plus he has lupus, so his immune system wouldn't be able to help him out if we did chemo. he's still acting like nothing's wrong, so hopefully he can keep that up, but the tumor is literally the size of my hand. we're going to bring him in later this week and see what we can do, but i'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that there may not be anything we can do for him.

gotta be on the skin somewhere if they are worried about coverage.

Moondog i'm so sorry.

(they are almost always in the lungs too, even if you could get the skin one...

moondog I'm so sorry to hear this

Tramp's such a lucky dog to live with you and mrs moondog who obviously care deeply for him and have made his life as happy and comfortable as you possibly can.

Give him lots of ear-scratches and tummy-tickles from me.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Moondog You may want to focus on trying to keep him comfortable. I'd like to suggest reading a book by Allen Schoen, D.V.M., and Pam Proctor : Love, Miracles, and Animal Healing.

it's located right along his chest near the end of his rib cage. and it is BIG. it just suddenly developed in about 2 days after we had him at doggy day care. at first we thought it was some kind of scratch but when it didn't go away and in fact got bigger then we started to worry. he's got so many other health problems that we never thought he might die from cancer before his treatment caught up to him.

I'm so sorry to hear that Moondog, I'm sure you'll know the right time to "let him go". Although it's hard to do, it may be in his best interests to have him put down.

I am sorry to hear about this. A family dog truly becomes part of the family. After I lost my first dog (a little Yorkie) - I have been unable to get another dog; I feel as if I would be disrespecting him by trying to find a replacement (by the way I know that does not make any sense)
Anyway, I am sorry to hear the news, I hope the dog does not suffer.

it's gotten really really big over the last week. my vet said he's waited his whole career to treat a dog with the cancer my dog has, but my dog has so many other problems that treatment is not really a viable option. he's been irritable lately, but we're not sure if that's the cancer bothering him or if it's our other dog trying to jump on him and play

Moondog -- I really really really suggest you look into the book I suggested. Of course, it is a super long shot, but that vet made many animal "miracles."
