Okay so the other day I went into a rather big chain pet store right, and I was very happy and very unhappy all within 2 minutes. So the first thing that happens is I see the betta cup size is upgraded. What a plus. Okay so then I go into the actual fish section, hand the employee who's working in there a piece of paper, which says some info about Multis and Brevis, complete with their scientific and common names. I asked her, "I was wondering if you carry these types of cichlids?" She studied it for like 15 seconds, then turned to me and asked, "Are these fish?!" In her most serious voice. In shock, I said, "Um yeah, they are a special type of cichlid called a shelldweller, and I'm interested in buying some." She stared at me like I had ten heads, then said, "Well, I dont think we carry those...but in that tank over there we do have some nice shells!!"
Well me and my ferret ran as fast as we could out of that store...I know sometimes pet stores arent that considerate in who they hire, but geez that was bad...what did she think I was asking her for? A dog? ]:|]:|]:|

You see all kinds.
I asked an employee if the mondo grass they had growing in the plant section was a TRUE aquatic plant. She looked at me funny and said " Ummm, yeah. It's in the water right now." Alrighty then.

I also saw a guy trying to buy a ten gallon tank and 20 or so feeder goldfish to go in it, all at one time. For every one lfs employee I've heard spouting nonsense, I've heard at least 20 times as many customers....and I don't even work there. For an employee that knows what they're doing, that has to be a frustrating job, heh.

True about customers. Especially considering goldfish.

Sometimes people who don't know fish are stuck in the aquatics section when the fish people are at the register. It's happened to me. One of my coworkers on about his first week tried to put a saltwater fish in freshwater... THAT'S how clueless he was... (and about how clueless he still is).

I'm not surprised that person didn't know mondo grass wasn't a true aquatic. I didn't until I had some that died. "Mike the fish guy" didn't know until I told him because he doesn't know plants that well...

It wasn't the fact that she didn't know whether or not that particular plant was a true aquatic or not... it was the fact that when I asked about it being a " true aquatic", the phrase didn't register with her. She pointed to it there in the water as proof it was " a true aquatic plant"....look, it's in the water..that makes it an aquatic plant

I gave a team leader a piece of my mind today when he sold two bala sharks to a customer for a 20 gallon tank...

team leader? bwahahaha... whenever a store has every single employee have a title such as team leader, shift supervisor etc etc to make their McJob seems a little bit more bearable, you should walk away instantly...
